6000km ago I
replaced the Inletcamshaft and installed 12 new Fingers. Parts from
Motaclan. Now I have only 1 Ticking Finger ( Inlet Cilinder no 4)

How is it possible that of the 24 Fingers only one is gone and that the Camshafts are like new.

Are you sure it's the finger and not a squashed shim? I've had a couple collapse on mine.

Is the Finger not above the stem of the Valve?

Nasty! Could it be that contamination has blocked the oil feed to that finger? Also iirc, you need to get the angle of the follower shaft correct to ensure that oil flows up and into the shaft at the back end of the head...could that be it? Splash oiling alone may not be enough (not sure perhaps someone has opinion on this) and so if the feed to the followers *was* impededed perhaps the weakest urface has failed first?

When I rebuilt mine, I ran the engine over on the starter for a while until the oil pressure came up and watched the oil squirting out of each follower.

When I did the vlave clearances I was surprised to see a nice film of oil the cam loabs from just turning the engine over by hand so it should be easy to check for blockages.

Also, as mentioned, could the clearance on that valve have been too tight? I read that there are 2 ways to measure the clearance, between the loab and the follower and between the underside of follower and the shim and both apparently give different readings, I did the former.

I think an over tight clearance would really just hold that inlet open constantly and make for some very ugly running. But would it cause it to wear the surface off the follower face? Not sure. Seems unlikely to me but I'm guessing. Seems more like lubrication failure. Amazing that the cam lobe is not ruined though!

From experience with finger followers on Pre War
Astons , I never trust that they are hardened correctly.
I always get every one hardness checked, before fitting.
I reckon you had a rogue soft one!
You could get the unworn area of the pad checked now,to see if it was ever hard on the unworn surface.
If it isn't,well !!!!!
Good luck
Simon.
