Im not new to leasing and we have previously taken out leases in my husbands name and I've been the main driver. Now we've arranged a lease in my name and my daughter would be the main driver. There was an option to take out the finance in her name but a soft search showed it would probably be declined as she has no credit history, so the finance was taken out in my name. I was advised by Stoneacre that I would have to be the main driver on the insurance and her as a named driver. So now we are looking at the insurance and as I already use my no claims on my own car the insurance is approx £1500 but I'm also aware that this is "fronting" and not legal. Other than cancel the order or try and get the finance in my daughters name can anyone make any other suggestion ?

TIA Kelly x

I don't think Stoneacres advice is correct. I'd check with them and the insurance company. The insurance company want to know who the registered keeper of the car is......and/or if it's leased, but otherwise they want to know who the real main driver so the car can be insured appropriately.

Yes thats what I thought. But I read all the docs for the lease and it actually specifies that I (as the leaser) have to be the main driver of the vehicle on the insurance

I can understand that they require you to be named on the insurance policy as you have a financial responsibility for the car. Requiring you to be the main driver makes no sense, if you aren't, as it would be deemed 'fronting' by the insurance company and could jeopardise any future claim.

I definitely wouldn't risk fronting. Insurance companies are incredibly good at spotting it now, and if your daughter has an accident, they just won't pay out. I had a friend who tried this and ended up with a cancelled policy on their record, which made future insurance almost impossible to get. It’s better to just pay the high premium or find a cheaper car.
