Seems to have been triggered by the Gill conviction.

Urgent review into foreign financial interference in UK politics

Feels like a long overdue move IMO.

I think it's a good idea. Politics in the UK clearly hasn't been working that well and this should be part of getting some reform to it.

Only a complete cynic would question why a party utterly riven by donation scandals and cabinet resignations for fraud and financial impropriety, would order an enquiry such as this to report days before local elections which by any account they are forecast to lose spectacularly.
Having said that it will not make a jot of difference as the only people who will take any notice of it will be voting for Labour anyway.

Strange.

So you don't think we should know if foreign powers are trying to influence politicians?

I mean Gill was quite literally paid to spout Russian propaganda and Christine Lee was funding Barry Gardiner.

I think we should know about that sort of thing don't you?

Not just Foreign powers, but businessmen attempting to influence legislation through large donations. We've seen in the USA the direct link between donations to trump and government policy. The same has likely been going on for years in the UK to a lesser extent, but it's time to stop it.

I'm wondering whether it's time to start funding political parties from general taxation (dependent on votes not seats), allowing individual donations capped at a low amount (<£1000?) and stopping MPs from receiving any money at all from side hustles.

100% that too.

Ali and Vince and Hester and the bloke who's just donated £9M to Reform.

No issue with any of it being looked into and personally I'd go a step further and make it very publicly visible who was funding MPs.

I've heard it before and it might sound a bit over the top but imagine what it would look like in the Commons if they had to wear patches like snooker players do with their sponsors on them.

No problem with this.

However, it is a shame they don't apply the same urgency to the rape gangs public inquiry.

Never voted for Labour, but the ties between Reform and Putin's Russia are concerning and have always been, we now know that bribes were being taken so let's lift the lid and see what else has been going on.

With everything that Russia is doing to the UK, to have a political party sucking on that teat is very worrying, 5th columnists no less.

Christ you people are hilarious, do not think that things are little different today than 13 years ago?

It's because it's Reform.

Total blind spot even for a spot of light treason.

Everything is reduced to "but Labour".

Did you use that argument for the alleged comments made by Farage when he was a school kid?
