My i8 Roadster has gained a windscreen chip that I had repaired by Autoglass a few months back. It's now become more visible again with hairline cracks spreading an inch or so.

BMW want over £1000 to replace so it will have to be an insurance job instead I think.

Can anyone recommend anywhere in the Midland that will know what they are doing? The car is unmarked, and with a HUD plus a carbon fibre windscreen surround should I be concerned? Or just go to Autoglass?

Can you elaborate on the 'has become more visible again' bit, please?

Do you mean it has returned to what it looked like before?

It was a bullseye. Fixed pretty well to just a tiny chip.

Now seems to have a couple of 'angel hair' cracks ot about 10 mm coming from it.

Happy to get a new screen, but as the car is just a bit different, I want to ensure that the fitter knows their stuff.

For reference, a bullseye is circular. A bullseye with a crack/cracks emanating from the centre is a combination.

There are others (cloverleaf, beeswing, half moon). The process is filling and mainly bonding the damage area by way of curing with UV light. Once cured ( "bonded" ) adequately, that part of the windscreen is technically stronger that the rest of the glass owing to the synthetic product (resin). It shouldn't worsen. Some deterioration of the impact crater however, can occur and this is determined by its size, ie, a bigger crater will show more than a smaller one.

AFAIK, there is a replace guarantee on Autoglass repairs but this may well have been revised as many abused it after finding out how to trigger it. It is also not clear if the guarantee is totally FOC (on them) or if they merely waive the excess and claim from your insurer again.

Thanks.

Yes, I guess it was a combination then.

In your experience, typically ok to trust Autoglass to replace? Or anywhere you'd recommend?
