Garage lighting - Recommendations please
Discussion
Evening all
I've recently purchased a house with a fairly decent garage space, not quite a double more like 1.5x and I've started work on tidying it up and making it a decent space.
After painting the walls to brighten it up I've decided to board the ceiling to try and retain a bit of heat so need to think about improving the current lighting while I'm there. Garage is a T shape, rotated 90 degrees and currently has a single strip light on each side.
Googling Just brings back loads of results for the hexagonal style light which I'm not really a big fan of, so does anybody have any other recommendations for decent lights please?
Picture of the garage below for reference, the current lights are not that great as you can see.
Thanks

These fittings have improved push fit electrical connections and fastening clips which don't ping off when you are fighting a step ladder. One some LED battens the clips hang down loose and you need 8 hands to get them to line up and clip in. Much better than ones I returned to Screwfix.

I used LED button lights from Screwfix - easy to do and not to pricey. Made a huge difference over old fluorescent tubes. I then did the same in the loft.
If you’re boarding the roof maybe also look at the square led ceiling lights / panels. I don’t have them myself but believe others on here have used them and were happy.

Screwfix led battens in the loft, but I've used 600mm square panels in the garage, 4 are really bright. Low profile so screwed into the boards flooring the loft of the garage

I've recently moved into a house with a pretty run down shed/garage and set about sorting it out last week (lining the walls with OSB and overbearing the roof and re-felting; I bought two LAP lights (4050lm) from screwfix as they were on offer last week, and they are incredibly bright and very easy to install. Brilliant lighting for working.

Hi
I can recommend the LAP 600mm square LED panel lamps, and the mounting boxes for them, from Screwfix. (but you can get them anywhere really)
(yes them come with transformers)
I've got them in the main garage, which has a ceiling, so the boxes are simply fastened to the plasterboard with appropriate fixings, also got them in the shed, which is open rafters. so knocked up a simple plywood 'square with a hole in the middle' to fasten the mounting too, with the ply mounting screwed to the rafters
For a single garage I'd suggest 3.

I’ve used similar to this, different company but looks like the same light (6ft - 6500k version). So far so good and enough light with 4 of them in a double garage.

LEDLite batons: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LTWPLED26.ht...
Adjustable for colour temperature and intensity.
Add the microwave sensor for the convenience of never needing to bother with switches.

I fitted 10 of these in my workshop last year and have been pretty impressed. Almost too bright with them all on so I'm glad they're switched in batches for when I don't need full power.
I thought the colour temperature switching was a bit of a novelty but warm white is actually much nicer than the colder colours.

Photo added because it's makes me smile.

Another vote for the panels instead of batons here. Easy enough to mount (as others have noted) - in my garage I found they were perfectly sized for me to just build a ledge, screwed into the joist above, for them to rest on. But only because I was too tight to pay for the mounting kit.
Transformer came with them, did have to wire it in but not hard with a few Wagos.

I have twin 'tube' LED mains light (4ft variants) I have 4 in my 5.5 x 3.5m workshop and its more than enough. You might only need a pair of 6ft units fir a single garage, but certainly don't skimp on the lighting.
Got mine from TLC Direct and they weren't cheap. Think I spent nearly £400 on 6 units about 8 years ago. They still work perfectly too.

I've got 4 of these in a 5.5m x 5.5m garage, with white walls, and there is no shortage of light.

They have been up for 7 years, and I have only just had to replace one of them a couple of moths ago.
