2017 Mini Cooper 1.5 Road Noise Remedy?
Discussion
I’ve just taken ownership of a 2017 Cooper with 17” alloys and RFT’s.
The car is, in almost every aspect, lovely but there is one niggle that seems to be something shared by many owners; the drone from the road on all but the most perfect of surfaces. I will have to put up with it for the near term but definitely want to get it sorted as best I can before too long!
The most obvious fix is a change of tyre. The car is currently on Hankook run flats but I plan to move to non RFTs and wonder what others recommend?
Plus, has anyone else had this issue and what, if anything, did you do about it?

I recently bought a 2018 JCW and I have similar issues with road noise. Sometimes it really gets to me and spoils my enjoyment of the car.
Mine came with Dunlop RFTs on 18s (so not exactly comfort spec). I very quickly changed to Michelin PS4s, thinking that was going to solve everything. It certainly helped, especially reducing tyre pressures and with a few hundred miles of wear.
I wouldn’t say it fully solved the underlying issue, which does still bother me from time to time, but really it’s just the harshest of roads now that make me grit my teeth a little. I think I’ve also accepted the car for what it is and just have some fun in it. I’ve started to bond with it, which makes me forgive some of the negatives.
Apparently, you can add sound deadening, which I suspect is the only other notable step, but this sounds like a right faff and I’d probably sooner admit the car didn’t suit me than go down this route.
Good luck.
