Christmas and New Year pub-goers
Discussion
More specifically, those who only visit their local boozer once a year and manage to make a nuisance of themselves.
This started in my local last week firstly as a result of people coming in after the town carol service, a couple of days later following the Xmas market & again tonight probably just because it's Christmas Eve.
If you are one of these occasional visitors, you are more than welcome.
Please note however that it is a very busy time of year so try to follow basic protocol:
If in a group establish what people are drinking before you go to the bar, not when you get served.
Shouting "what does Sarah want" or "is it normal or diet tonic for Dave" will not endear you to anyone.
When ordering multiple items, you are buying a round.
Ordering six drinks and then asking if they can be paid for separately is the mark of a t**t.
Sort it out at the table if you must, not at the bar.
Should anyone want a Guinness, ask for it first, not last.
Consider your surroundings.
If in a timber framed pub built in the 16th century, the likelihood is that they won't offer the obscure cocktails that your wife and her sister have seen on Instagram. Don't ask what else they could make - they are busy, just buy a normal drink.
If you think you are next in line, but before coming to you the bar staff pull a pint for someone without asking what they want, don't argue.
They are regulars and provide a more valuable income to the pub than your one-off visit.
Could add more but that will do for now.

Who are you, the pub police?
This is the same thing that's been circulating on Facebook etc for weeks. I know. It's tongue in cheek (hopefully) but it's no wonder pubs are dying on their feet if this is the sort of rubbish spouted by 'locals'.
You can call me that, but let me know which part of my post you think is "rubbish" rather than just common sense. This is the same thing that's been circulating on Facebook etc for weeks. I know. Another thing that annoys me are folks who fill up with fuel at a place with an attached M&S/Tesco etc then do 15mins shopping while leaving the car at the pump. Park in a designated space - shop first, fill up after - it's not hard.
Am I now the petrol station police too?

O/t we are regulars in our local and they always embarrass me by serving my pint as I'm on the way to the bar! Load of po faced people waiting to be served still as I glide in and take it away.
TX.
Same here.TX.
When the pub was packed this week, the bar staff saw my glass was nearing empty & pulled another without asking.
They don't ask for payment so no delay in serving other people.
Either settle up when ready to go or if they are still busy, I'll just leave and sort it next time I'm in.

It's the ones who all queue up behind each other that worry me, great big wide bar and you make a line like you're at Greg's for a steak bake
Mostly people in Wetherspoon pubs who do the queuing thing - no idea why.Vast majority of other pubs wouldn't have the floor space to allow it.

tsAlthough I appreciate your frustration and sense of entitlement by being “locals” it does paint a poor picture of you. The pub is a public place unless there publicam has banned someone. Some people may not be quick to order or don’t know the etiquette.
The provam is the one that can educate them if they feel they need. They probably don’t and are happy to serve them anyway.
Are you so desperate for a drink that you can’t wait 5 minutes? Where is your Christmas spirit of tolerance and kindness?
I don’t get angry or upset with any of the above neither the petrol station thing. The rules are not set, the problem was/is created by the businesses.
Be more tolerant in general, your health will benefit.

they will also order a coffee just to piss you off a little bit more and of course the usual wait when everything is totted up whilst they find their card to pay even tho they've been standing a fffffing queue doing F.all for several minutes.
They are the pub equivalent of Sunday motorists. It's the entitled regulars that spoil the atmosphere in pubs.
Pubs are there to be enjoyed by anyone who drops in, part of the enjoyment for me is visiting pubs I've never been in before, even of only once. Those who go on Xmas Day might be from out of town and are there because they are visiting family fand need to get out of the way whilst dinner is being made, so of course they wont ever be there on any other day of the year.
Pub regulars thinking the pub is theres is just stupid.
However I agree that if buying a large round then it's better to know exactly what your ordering, and don't dither.

It could be that those ‘once a year’ lot are making all the difference between staying in business or not.
For a few weeks of ‘not following correct protocol’ and getting on the way of regulars, they should be gleefully accommodated unless you want to risk the closure of your beloved local. They could be making all the difference to the landlord.

I wonder if it’s the parochial attitudes of the “regulars” that has contributed towards so many pubs closing down.
