G32 rear spoiler stuck
Discussion
Looks like this is a not uncommon fault with these cars, mainly because BMW used a plastic gear to mate with the metal motor gear to raise/lower the rear spoiler. So the plastic gear is chewed and the car chimes a warning when it goes up or down through 70mph, and when reaching 80, it repeatedly chimes.
An alternative to the £1000 replacement work is to buy a used spoiler, but this will almost certainly fail the same way. Replacing the worn gear is a cut and welding job
I have read that the 3GT suffers from the same fate, and that seems to have a code (V_ASP_OUT) that can be used to prevent the spoiler alarm (it's stuck in the out position so no danger of instability at higher speeds). I have the OBDlink CX dongle and bimmercode app but cannot find this code even in expert mode. Has anyone managed to code this on a 6GT or know if the code even exists?
