New Clutch or what?
Discussion
Happy Christmas all.
I started my 2002 Chimney 500 this Xmas morning intending to go for a noon and a swift pint. Unfortunately the car wasn’t up for it, it refused to go into any gear. I’m no mechanic but bearing in mind that it’s done 100,000 miles on the original clutch I reckon that’s the likely cause.
Any other theories or is that the likely culprit?

Agree.
Unpeel the black cover in you engine bay inner wing, undo the lid, and see if there’s any fluid in there.
If not, it could be a failing of the seals on the master cylinder or the slave cylinder.
Easy enough to replace either.
If there’s no sign of a leak in those, the. It’s a looks at your clutch and gearbox.
A number of us have had failed master cylinders andaves, so hopefully it’s that, and to therefore simpler

I've had a failed slave cylinder on a Chimaera, it became difficult to push in the pedal. It eventually seized, the rod bent.
If you can push the pedal all the way in, it is more likely to be a hydraulic leak, and thankfully, on the V8 Rover cars, it's external so no removal of the bell housing is necessary.

Thanks for the help/advice guys. I have no mechanical experience or ability so it’s a garage for the diagnosis and repair. There’s a local classic car place I could take it to but I’d prefer a specialist. I’m going to ask Mat Smith in Kings Lynn if he could do the job along with the 12,000 mile service and MOT. Trouble is I’ll need someone to transport it the 60 odd miles to Kings Lynn.
The other possibility is Python Racing in Colchester though I have no experience with them.

Do you have breakdown with at home cover? If so, get them out to have a look - they'll probably refill the reservoir for you and assuming the leak isn't too bad you should be fine going the 60miles to Mat Smith.
Thanks, that’s a thought. I’ll speak with Mat when they re open after Xmas.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
