I couldn't find a PH thread on this, either here or in GG, which surprised me given how much wider attention it got.

Will apparently come as hybrid, PHEV and full electric.

My personal view:
  • It looks amazing.
  • The light bar at the front really needs to be solid (like the Tesla Model Y) rather than gapped.
  • The interior is clearly concept-y, but one interesting point is that there is no central screen. The driver has a screen directly in front of them, which they control using buttons and joypads (so no touchscreen), and the passenger gets their own touchscreen. This is IMHO a really cool idea, and I hope it makes its way to production.
  • I love the way that the beltline dips at the leading edge of the front doors in order to maximise side visibility. Ditto the way that the windscreen runs far down, cutting into the bonnet area to maximise forward visibility. It's the first concept I've seen in a while that has thought about driver visibility.
  • Also visibility related: the A-pillars look surprisingly thin. I know the first thing people will say is "it's a concept, they can do what they like" but:
I reckon that the exterior of the production car will look very similar to this. For a concept car, it looks suspiciously close to production readiness, and I see nothing here that is clearly impossible to productionise, except maybe the panoramic windscreen which would cause an uptick in the Autoglass share price if nothing else. Toyota have form for making their production cars look very similar to the concepts. I remember reading that this is one of Akio Toyoda's signature moves: 1) challenge the designers to produce outlandish concepts and 2) then challenge the engineers to make the real car look exactly like that.

And Toyota must know that they can't show a car like this with their most famous production model name (Corolla) and then build something different, especially since the new Corolla is out next year when memories of this concept will still be fresh. They have to make it look like this now.

The packaging of this concept looks very BEV oriented. For example the interior has a very flat floor, and the bonnet looks to me to be too low to incorporate any kind of ICE without the use of witchcraft. I wonder if the ICE version will have a different shape. Or maybe the ICE model will be a range extender hybrid which might give more packaging options.

If the real thing looks like this, they can have my deposit.

But I am interested in the views of others.
