Hi Guys,
I’m in the market for a new laptop. Must have minimum 8Gb RAM and 512Gb hard drive. Windows 11 and be less than £400. I know Windows 11 comes with Defender, so is another antivirus software needed? Also, I would like to be able to use MS word and PowerPoint, but I’m reluctant to get involved with the annual subscription for these and wondered if there is any way I could just pay a one-off fee, legally of course!
Does anyone have any recommendations? Does anybody know if there are any good deals coming up?
Thanks for all positive responses.
Happy New Year! wavey

No comment on the laptops, other than they're all much of a muchness so just buy whatever is a good deal. They all use the same parts, there isn't a "bad" laptop. I have HP, use Dell for work, and previous jobs have used Lenovo laptops and they're all fine.

You don't need any other anti-virus, but I do have Spybot S+D and Ccleaner which are useful tool although not needed.

Office products can legally be bought without subscription, for example from here. May need activating by telephone which is automated and takes 5 mins, but IMO buying standalone Office 2024 for £16 is much better than a £60/year sub or whatever O365 is these days. The software is entirely legit, you still get updates, etc.
