Hi Folks

I’m considering a greenhouse for my allotment and polycarbonate seem to be a lot cheaper, this sort of thing

Any experiences on here? Unlike glass they are not fully clear which concerns me. How can enough light get through?

If you're going to stick a paraffin heater in it I'd go with poly, if you want to look at it I'd go with glass.

My neighbour has one ,as I found out last summer watering his plants , whilst he was on holiday. It did seem like it was restricting the light , albeit his tomatoes and strawberries were growing very well.
It reminded me of a glass one that was fairly dirty.

My dad had a polycarbonate that was white, it filtered some light spectrum out, I may be misremembering but I think he d copper maple seedlings that didn t grow red when inside but all changed after they were outside

ETA if I remember correctly his tomatoes grew taller like the were looking for light - (school science suggests that would be lack of light so maybe a missing spectrum)

When glass panes on our std greenhouse have broken, I've replaced them with transparent polycarbonate sheet. Works fine.

Edited to add....not the double wall stuff. Single wall, fully transparent.
