Embracing the dull side of life
Discussion
Having got to the stage of my RRS being off the road for another repair, I’ve finally given into the voice in my head that said ‘but yourself a shed’ to keep myself mobile.
Hitting Facebook Marketplace with big dreams and a healthy £500 budget, I kissed some frogs for sure (a near miss with a Zafira had me questioning my life choices) but ultimately I suffered ‘mission creep’ and had my head (bizarrely) turned by the most beige of beige cars, a Silver Seat Ibiza Estate for £800 of my hard-earned.
Rocking a 1.2TDi engine, 15” wheels and a FM radio, for many it screams ‘shed’ but I honestly couldn’t bring myself to consider it as one. It’s dull, drab, hilariously frugal and yet somehow I look forward to driving it and am entirely on board with the idea it can stick around for the long term.
So, in perhaps a slightly different take to the ‘Joys of Shedding’ thread(s), I’m looking for other like minded souls who have embraced the dreary, sought comfort in cloth upholstery and leaned into life in total anonymity.
Is it just me, or have I had a stroke (not of genius)?

Welcome to the world of shedding!
Because your Ibiza qualifies in every way, even if you don't think of it that way, but it may well be an inspired choice.
Back in 2014 I needed a sensible car for elderly parent taxi duty so I bought a 1996 Mazda 323f 1.5i with just 61K miles for £695 because it was in the cheap Road Tax bracket and had a non-interference engine. And it had velour upholstery!
I think the 2 previous keepers on the South Coast may have been elderly as most panels had scrapes on them but it worked fine. But I just found it gutless so after 6 months it got replaced by a 2002 BMW E46 325ti that cost £1,995 (so just within current Shed budget) that I actually enjoyed driving.
Anyway good luck, and maybe share some photos of your gem.

Nice shedding. Ibizas are nice although some the estate versions can be gopping. Sheds are always best when in the company of nicer (even if just nicer sheds) cars as it keeps those feeling extra special and it stops you feeling precious about the proper sheds.
Totally agree with this garage filled with toys wintering in the FL2 feeelander I bought with a suspected failed turbo. Wastegate circlip had come off excellent buy. It is extremely liberating! I'm currently smoking around in a 2007 Fiesta 1.25 with 190,000 miles on the clock. It cost me £180 5 years ago, and I've put a cambelt and clutch in it over the years and some consumables (brakes etc). It has dents all over it, but is fantastic. It drives great, cheap to run and I just love it. I recently sold my Disco 4, which cost me a fortune over the last 10 years of ownership, and was considering what to replace it with, but for now, I'm more than happy running around in this little Fiesta which owes me nothing, costs buttons to run and if anything does break it is simple and cheap to fix.
Welcome to the club!

I've also recently returned to shedding.
I needed a basic car for when my partner is at work. I bought myself a 5door 2012 107 with 60k miles for £1500. It's in good condition and had no advisories on its last 2 MOT's.
Its frugal on fuel, £20 a year tax, and cheap insurance. Its probably costing me £20 a month to keep it on the road. I can't see me ever selling it.
