I'm looking to change and there's a local Volvo dealer with a couple of 12 mth old V90 Ultra T8 plug-in hybrids for about £38k with average mileage.

Seems an awful lot of car for the money, AWD, B&W sound, rear air suspension, HUD, etc, etc and decent turn of speed if needed.

They look big, comfy, quite stylish inside, plenty of room in the back and a bit under the radar.

Use case is about 15-18k miles a year, need AWD due to location, ferry a couple of quiet elderly parents a few times a week, road trips to Europe twice a year. Don't do many short journeys, mostly 20+ miles. Not too fussed about fuel economy. I'm coming from a Lexus RX450 - lovely car but a bit quirky and insurance is astronomical cos its a 2020 and has the weak CAN bus security.

Am I missing something? Anyone with real world experience of nearly new V90's? Cheers!

No experience myself, but my business load lugger is a late V70 which is serviced by a good Volvo specialist independent garage.

I was thinking of getting a V90 of some sort and asked the garage about their experiences with V90s.

Their answer was that they have more trouble with them, much of it expensive to rectify, than with V70s.

I'm interested in this as well and actually test drove one at the weekend.

Been looking for a comfy estate and the V90 is high on the list due to the standard equipment. Starting looking at 2019/2020 D5's and saw these. There are a lot on the market and I assume Volvo pre-reg'd a lot. Been looking at AutoTrader for a few months (as you do) and a lot seem to hang around for a long time.

Anyway from the short test drive it was nice and quiet and did pick up the pace well. However, the petrol engine was a bit rough (I think a 6 cyclinder would have been perfect).

I'm still interested in one but doing some research a lot of the earlier models (11.8KwH) seem to have problems with the ERAD (the electric motor) and whilst the new ones are supposidly better I'm a little risk adverse on these.

Also I don't think the consumption is great on long distances when you are constantly on petrol. If you do a lot of local trips purely on electric then it appears good but I don't so unsure.

Not a lot of use but really interested in any other opinions on these.

Well, I took one out for a 45 min test drive yesterday....V90 Ultra T8 plug-in hybrid. List price of these new is £70k, I drove one registered in 12/24 with 14k miles, offered to me at £36400. So, still got almost 2 yrs manufacturers warranty and in perfect condition. Was one of a number of Volvo HO mgnt cars auctioned to Volvo dealers (there's a few for sale in the dealer network at present).

Impressions? TBH, I was blown away. It's a handsome car to look at and really stylish inside. Roads were icy and AWD worked well, even with summer tyres. Air suspension is awesome and puts it in Panamera/BMW 7 series levels of comfort (I've had both so can opine on that), the blond leather inside is lovely, seats excellent and loads of space in the back. It was fully loaded with everything (except massage/ventilated seats), lovely B&W audio and it all felt well thought out and put together. It's easily on a par with an equivalent specced 5 series, A6, E class re premium feel and perceived quality. There's no knobs for climate etc, which I thought would be a pain, but google assist voice recognition worked flawlessly, so not an issue.

Went on a good mix of roads incl motorway and it felt really nice everywhere. Acceleration is really impressive too...booted it accessing the motorway and...well, yeah - pretty impressive.

So, what's the catch? Why are they listed at nearly 50% off list? Honestly, I don't know. I didn't buy yesterday, cos the trade in offered on mine was a little below where I wanted to be, but let's see in a few days if a deal can't be done. In the meantime, I'm really curious to hear real world experience from anyone who's got a 1-2 yr old V90 as to what they're like to live with and reliability. Thx v much.
