E91 3.0 engined cars - will they appreciate?
Discussion
I have a leggy E91 330d M-Sport ZF6. It's in resale silver with black Dakota pleather. It's got some options (heated seats, folding mirrors, pro nav, front and rear parking sensors) but lacking real goodies like HK, xenons, electric seats.
It's done 178k and is a 2008 58 reg with the last of the M57 engines, so a pre LCi. We've had it 9 years. It's got decent history, we look after it (It's been reasonably needy as it has aged) but is still an old euro 5 diesel.
So all in all quite an unremarkable 330d estate in 2008, but in 2026 there don't seem to be many left. Which leads me to wonder if one day it might start to go up in value? I'm not advertising it by the way!
What do people think? Perhaps it is just 335d and 330/335i models that will be revered and the 330d will be scrap?
Please comment on my pointless thread :-)

I’ve been following these for the last 6 years, but never been brave enough to pull the trigger.
Seems they’ve been steadily increasing in price but in the last year or two have gained a bit of a premium and become less common. With similar priced cars 6 years on being higher mileage and obviously 6 years older.
Going on e46 prices, I don’t think they’re going to be worth massive money any time soon. As you can get a very nice e46 for under 10k with less than 100k miles.
I think it’s unlikely to depreciate though!

It s likely to be the usual 3 series way. Numbers go down, bad ones get scrapped, drifted/crashed. The remaining ones go up in value. How long this takes
Yeah.As discussed on the Council Thread, looks like E9X currently going through their council phase. Typically 320d models with tintz, those window deflectors, mahozzive rimz on cheapo rubber.
I suppose with the 330d it's considered the big mileage workhorse rather than one of the more 'special' (but not M) models. A top spec 335i or 335d will be most sought after.
N52 330i may be desirable as considered a decently reliable engine vs the later N53 (which has expensive 'niggles').

I think the rough ones (all E9x variants) are at breaker level now, but there are also some dreamers out there price wise. amongst that there are examples that don't have the corrosion problems, or that have been well maintained. Those will only creep up slowly in value, but they'll never match the petrol 330 and 335 variants.
I sold a 2008 pre LCI E91 330d M-Sport ZF6 14 months ago. I'd owned it 8 years and it had been a great companion in that time. It had been very well maintained, over an inch thick of maintenance receipts.
Before selling I'd been watching cars for sale in the usual places online for 3 months, they were either very rough end of life for a couple of grand, or 5k plus but they weren't selling. I put mine up for £3,700 (125k miles, 2 owners, no mods, huge history, and very very clean - interior did not look like a 125k car) and it sold for £3,500 within 48 hours. I felt that it was priced bang on, hence it sold quickly. The more expensive ones were still for sale months later.

I don't think it'll ever "appreciate" greatly, but it should hold its value well enough from here on in.
One thing I have noticed is that E91 330is have been fetching strong money for years, especially manual ones, as I was looking for one in 2019. So I got a manual E90 330i with the N52 for about half as much, and still have it even if I do look at Touring prices from time to time!
LEZs are going to hold back diesel values for many although the 330d is the one to have and we're only going to have more LEZs as time goes by.
But prices for a good E46 330i have jumped so maybe E9*s will follow suit - probably just after I've sold mine!

This hasn’t depreciated since I bought it 5 years ago.😁Seems they ve been steadily increasing in price but in the last year or two have gained a bit of a premium and become less common. With similar priced cars 6 years on being higher mileage and obviously 6 years older.

335d is the one to have! (The 335i is more likely to be a coveted classic as it sounds bettter)LEZs are going to hold back diesel values for many although the 330d is the one to have and we're only going to have more LEZs as time goes by.

They ve done their depreciation by now. I don t see anything other than the M3 adding any real value.
My facelift 2003 e46 msport 330i 6 speed manual convertible went down to about £2-2.5K but as decent ones reduced it recovered to nearly £6k when I sold it at end 2020. Second owner with 81k miles.[url][img]https://forums-
