Quick scroll through Autotrader revealed a Bentley flying Pur with less than 50k miles for £14k and a Beemer M135i for £12.5k. That leaves enough cash left over for all the tissues you’ll need when the Bentley goes wrong

Good NY subject.

Late Series 1 Cayenne S and a Fiat 500 Abarth would be a good, sub £30k combo to cover many needs.

Real world, if I had to choose a £30k two car garage for myself, it would be something like a Mazda CX5 and an MX5 of some description.

Could you get an m140i in budget? Better engine, or so I’ve heard

Its just the same engine with a different map is it not? Expect there are other improvements between the two cars.

If one needs to be a 7-seater/tip car, a Ford S-Max (2013ish, £5k) and an M2 Competition (2018ish, £25k) would be my pick.

Split equally - 15 grand on a CLS63 shooting brake with the 5.5 twin turbo engine, plus a decent Chimaera, or maybe a Maserati Spyder if anyone has tissues spare.

It's a completely different engine, N55 in the M135i vs B58 in the M140i

My ideal £30k 2 car garage would be my current £15k 2 car garage, but newer versions of both.

Oh sorry we doing pure flights of fancy? Then a Rolls Royce limousine and a TVR Chimaera.

Audi A8 (maybe the L) and a Caterham / well fettled MX5.

One eats continents for breakfast, the other is perfect for a Sunday morning blast.

I guess kinda what I have now but with a higher mileage 996 Turbo to get under budget, and the spare change on a knackered TT.

Mind you, having a quick look at AT, if we're permitted to imagine that cars don't need servicing and never ever go wrong then maybe a Bentley Continental GT and an Aston Martin DB9.

There's a chap near me who has had a Continental GT for years. I've never seen it move but it looks like it's care for and sometimes it's plugged in to the battery tender. I wonder how much he's put into it.

I did a £25k garage a few years ago - an E500 estate and a Fiat 500.

If I were to update it today (for £30k) I'd go for a 540i Touring and a 500E.

I spend way too much time thinking about these in my case imaginary scenario's. The other night I couldn't sleep as I was thinking if I needed a garage with 4,6,8,10 and 12 cylinder cars but couldn't have more than 1 from the same country what would I go for.

Anyway to answer the OP question, for £30k I'd go £18k on a Guilia Veloce or 335d for the daily and the remainder on a Cayman for weekends and trackdays.

AWD Yeti and a 6-cylinder Cayman looks doable.

Currently have a 540i Touring X drive (2018) which is a very capable car and fun when it needs to be, plus a Merc C300 Cab (2017). Probably worth about £30k for the pair as mileage is fairly low. Good combination, but now you got me thinking about changing as don't need a 4 seater Cab any more. Boxster and Cayenne combo on my radar smile

EDIT - Now just read this: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I admit, I'd have to scour some murky corners of the internet and haggle hard and I'd end up with the market's ropiest pair of cars sat on my driveway but it looks like £30k can still just about get you an E39 M5 and an S1 or early S2 Elise. Elise for weekend fun. M5 for weekday fun and practical stuff.

Or alternatively, if I was looking for tidier driveway fodder:

This: Manual converted E61 M5

And the weekend 'toy' with the change:

That's tonight's homework sorted. smile
