I've twiddled that knob with the little white spot on the steering column next to the column height adjuster and wondered what it should do ever since I got the car in February. It didn't dim the dash lights, nor change the headlight angle, and certainly has no impact on any nitrous oxide system ...... and then searching through a thread on this site the answer...... it changes the intermittent winscreen wiper speed, and it does.

Now all I need to find out is why the rear wash wipe doesn't work when I push the fancy Vauxhall stalk forward !!

Have you found the button under the dash on th left that's identical to the boot release, it turns the dashboard lights on and off........What is all that about?

Driving in the dark with the roof down. Turning the dash lights off is magic. But, the high beam warning doesn't go out, so that's irritating, and the speedo light does, so you have to be careful about your speed. And TVR's do seem to be "Oh dear, I appear to be doing 100mph without really trying" cars...

Somebody once posited that one reason to turn the dash lights off was so you could park it with the sidelights on if you wanted it to be visible.

If you trust that your battery is up to it, that is.

Have you filled the wash tank in the boot. Try cleaning the stepper motor...

Have you found the switch for the front fog lights yet? Otherwise you can't go out on a crappy wet day like today - you need to turn on sidelights and foglights, but no headlights. It's not just Vauxhalls! BMWs do that too!

Don't even go down that route Ben. TVR drivers do NOT drive with their fog lights on in the rain. Anyway as you well know the Griffith does not have fog lamps Rich...

Saab has this feature, they say it is a safety feature... by switching off the dash lighting your night vision is improved (this assumes lack of external light source i guess e.g. on coming cars!!)

Not sure that this is what TVR had on mind though, just another take on the 'What's this all about' question

Yes, but don't SAAB make planes? It's no good flying over the desert in the pitch black with a little light on in the cockpit - Sadman Hussein might see you coming........

You've never seen anything quite so funny as a group of petrol head IT bods trying to do handbrake turns in the car park in the new boys citroen xantia...( handbrake on the front wheels!!!) i was pissing my self .. then had to show them how to do it by driving the car in reverse... Funny how the car threw a drive shaft 500 miles later ( total miles 750)

I always thought the dash light switch was there so you could blast through the country lanes wearing NVG's [night vision goggles] at night with side lights only. Because the dash lighting would ruin the effectivness of the NVG's. I used to have a Lotus Elan Mk 1 that regularily retracted the headlights accelerating out of a corner. The vacuum tank that held the headlights up was part of the front cross member and was leaky. They changed later to sprung up vacuum down. Could have done with NVG's then.
