The keypad on an accenta G3 alarm was playing up so I took it off to repair the buttons. Obviously, the alarm went off and so I turned the power off to it and disconnected the battery.

When I replaced the keypad and connected the battery and turned the power back on the alarm again went off and indicated a tamper on the keypad. Pressing reset reduced the volume of the alarm in the house but not outside. Putting in the code didn’t change anything.

After 15 minutes or so the outside alarm stopped and then a bit later the inside alarm stopped. The keypad then seemed to be normal as the tamper indicator had gone. However, I can no longer set the alarm using the code or the ‘set’ button.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

When you say repair the buttons what does that mean?
Odds on the keypad is faulty, they are pretty simple reliable systems.
Don't think they exist anymore but spares should be available.

Usually, panels don't default when the batteries run out, but some engineers lock the panel out so that it requires the engineers' code to sort it out once a tamper fault has been registered.

The best option, if you are fairly confident, may be to to default the panel and start over. Manufacturer instructions are fairly easily found on the internet for your panel.

Those Accenta 3 boxes are no longer made but sometimes you can find them second hand on the likes of Ebay etc.
The buttons appear to get less positive with age and the last time ours was serviced the engineer rubbed them with emery paper which made a small improvement but still care needed when setting.
If you have a maintenance contract I would ring the alarm company as I believe they can only be reset in person.

Default master code for these is 9999.
Press 'Prog' 9999 to enter.
Press 'Reset' to leave.
Press 'Reset' 'Reset' while in engineer mode to reset the unit to factory default.
All previous user settings will be erased.

Some of the buttons weren't very responsive but I have sorted these and they all work fine now.

The manual states that the tamper light would be on if it was locked out, so I don't think this is the case any longer. I think I may have to start over. The manual suggests that to do that I need to press reset twice within 5 seconds of turning power on. If theis doesn't work are there any other ways of defaulting it. I seem to recall many years ago on a different alarm I had to "short" something on the board.

I have tried the engineer codes 9999 and 0123 without any success.

Quite possibly the installer has changed it so you need to call them out.

Many installers don’t like giving out the engineers codes for ‘technical reasons’. I had this with ours but managed to prise it from them when they came to do a service.

I cant quite remember but surely its not that easy to factory reset a panel just by powering down as anyone could do that.
Thought it would be a case of opening main panel and adding links etc to do?
