Hi all,

Recently bought a Japanese import VW Passat with the VW group EA888 2.0 tsi engine with 220bhp

Now Ivew had this engine in 3 other cars (two Octavia VRS 220 & 245 and also a Superb Sportline 220bhp) and on average it has given 37 -38 mpg average with over 40mpg on a run.

The MPG on average with the Passat is hovering around 30mpg.

My question is would a Japan spec VW run different engine software compared to a UK car to account for different fuel and emissions rules over there??

Do you think a remap from a uk tuner would give me a power increase but also improve the MPG?

Thanks

Yes, it very probably does have a different map from factory, Japan run 100 Ron fuel Vs our 95

My previous Subaru had to be mapped to run properly on 97

A remap for UK fuel should improve the running, not sure if this translates to an increase in MPG though

Could it be US Vs Imperial Gals as the MPG if in Japan?

I know US model cars show this so could account for the discrepancy.

I guess it wouldn't be different enough to account for using a third more fuel, if it was different at all.

How are you measuring the economy? Reading on the dash, or actual brim-to-brim measurement?
(eta: US vs UK gallon size if going by the trip computer was what I was thinking too, 30mpg US would be about 36mpg UK)

Thanks all,

As it stands the car runs very well. It runs a little hotter oil temp wise than the previous 3 cars but sounds to be inline with what the guys with MK7 GTI 220 are seeing.

The dashboard is in MPH and MPG, no idea if its uk MPG.

It costs around £95 quid to fill up (70 litre tank) and I get about 480-500 from a tank

Only MPH dash on a Japanese import?

Are there any KM/h markings on it at all? Sounds like you might have a US gauge cluster installed.

FWIW, I have an EA888 gen 3 (Oct VRS) and am currently averaging only 30mpg across a tank, whereas my long term average for this car is more like 35. Weather I guess.

What oil temps are you seeing on a long run?

I'm seeing around 102degrees on a run and around 106-108 in town traffic.

My Octavia's used to sit at 96-98 constantly

Its got the digital dash which you can change from KM/h to MPH in the settings I think
