Automatic gate sensor
Discussion
Not sure if anything can be done to remedy an annoying quirk with our automated driveway gate....
Its a horizontally rolling/sliding gate about 6m wide opening.
There's a through beam sensor that stops then opens the gate, waits 45 secs then closes again (if there is no obstruction)
The sensor set up consists of a transmitter and receiver. (NICE FT210 PHOTOCELLS)
In a morning, if its been raining or frosty the cover on the sensor is obstructed with water droplets or a frost dusting. So, when its opened first thing it doesn't shut automatically as it thinks something is there.
Clean/wipe the housing and its all good.
Is this just something that I will have to live with or is there any solution?
TIA

Wipe down with Rain-X or something to try and prevent droplets forming?
The sensors on mine have got all sorts of muck on them and even with rain there’s no effect. Has the internal beam-producing-thingy come out of alignment behind the casing? That’s the only time mine have misbehaved.

Ill try the rain x - worth a shotThe sensors on mine have got all sorts of muck on them and even with rain there s no effect. Has the internal beam-producing-thingy come out of alignment behind the casing? That s the only time mine have misbehaved.
All the alignement etc is bang on - works fine most of the time.
According the AI its a common complaint. Apparenty you can buy little covers to keep the rain off
I’ve just had my send and receive sensors replaced, in bright sun it was blocking the receiver and I also had to clean them quite often or the gates would stay open thinking there was an obstruction.
The new sensors are smaller and I haven’t touched them for about 6 or 7 weeks now, seems like there’s been some improvement in technology maybe?
But Rain X is a great idea!
