Just watching the various News outlets this morning after the Armageddon of some wind and snow in Winter.

Wales and NE Scotland seemed to have some decent snow, but the rest of the reports showed a dusting of snow and tales of doom and, well, I got the impression that they had either 1) Never seen a Winter before or 2) Trying to make a big issue of the fact that Doom had been predicted but never came, and all we had was a little snow...

You could even see the grass through the "snow" in Buxton.

Total overreaction IMHO.

Yep, complete hysteria from the news outlets. However, watching the local Westcountry news last evening, I did feel sorry for the poor girl reporting from St. Ives where winds had hit upper 90s and were forecast to reach 100mph or more. It was all she could do to stand, let alone deliver a decent report. Ironic, of course, that we're told to stay in our homes otherwise we're all going to die yet the news companies happily send their reporters out in it. As it was, in East Devon and subject to a yellow weather warning we had a bit of rain and it was a bit blowy - I'm lucky to be alive, I tell you.

The weather becomes the news.

Any snow anywhere is instant 'Treacherous conditions, don't go out unless absolutely necessary, gridlock, etc.'

It's also the old thing of people won't believe that there is bad weather unless some hapless reporter is actually stood out in it, too.

'People are being advised to take shelter'...says person stood outside, usually by a sea wall that has waves crashing over it or something!

Yes it is all overblown. Yes it is all very silly. But yet, we en masse remain wilfully unprepared to deal with these conditions - even if they're not actual Armageddon as reported.

'Explosive Cyclone Bomb' was the headline all the local rags were going with to fish for clicks around here in North Wales, we've had a bit of slush, even all the schools are still open rolleyes Never heard a dusting of snow described in that manner in all my years.

Everything has to be clickbait and massively over dramatised for them to get any engagement these days.

It's getting tedious.

Even Sir David Attenborough now promotes this in every programme to the point that it puts me off watching.

I get that humans have dicked around and that we really should look to move on to a cleaner way of living (good for us, good for the environment) but this over dramatisation of every day/seasonal weather is too much.

It was the worst storm I've ever experienced here, wind was incredibly powerful and has left quite a mess.

What I find highly ironic about weather on TV is they absolutely love a weather warning, how did we ever cope without them, and say things like don't travel unless essential, etc. and then make said weather person travel to some location to be stood in front of said bad weather...

Treat it like the news, competing with social media and always creating drama where none exists. I don't watch either.

I think since the infamous Michael Fish 'there isn't a Hurricane coming' forecast (I forget the exact phrase), weather forecasters seem to go for worst case scenario / overplay what may happen.

Oh the humanity, surely someone is to blame and there is a compensation claim somewhere?

It's the way they report how everyone is suffering and no-one can cope, then everyone they interview is really upbeat and getting on with their lives.
