Hi All, I’m looking for any recommendations or experience of Internet radios that have their own SIM card please. My FiL has no broadband to the house, no smart devices etc and no knowledge of computers so we are looking at a simple way of giving him Greek or Cypriot music radio as he used to listen to LGR in London which is now out of range.

I can only seem to find a couple of Chinese units with very mixed reviews, there must be more out there! I guess another option is to buy a SIM router and a “standard” internet type radio but an all in one box that’s easy to use for a non technical person would be the wish.

Any recommendations gratefully received smile

What about a short wave radio ,you can pick up channels from all over the world.

Just an example, there are cheaper options

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-ICFSW7600G-ICF-SW760...

You can boost the signal with one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/XHDATA-Antenna-Combinatio...

Might find some stations of interest here

Thank you and Fooman for similar ideas, I think that might be a much more flexible solution(and we then get some sort of WiFi into his house for us too!). I love the idea of a SW radio as it’s something I did as a kid, tempted to go back to listening to the world that way again.

It’s a shame he flat refuses to use a smart phone or tablet as I have an old iPhone that I could put a SIM in and simply run the audio to a powered speaker but it’s a big no from him - we’ve tried before.

Can you not use Alexa?

To listen to Cypriot radio on Alexa, use the built-in TuneIn service by saying, "Alexa, play [Station Name] on TuneIn," or enable specific station skills like BFBS Rewind (for UK forces in Cyprus) or search for Greek-focused stations through skills like Greek Radio. Popular stations like Rock FM Cyprus and other local channels can often be accessed via TuneIn or dedicated apps/skills, though availability can vary, so you might need to enable the relevant skill or service in the Alexa app first.

Put the phone in a box with a speaker on the back and tell him it’s a radio with a screen to control it.

You can get a TPLink 4G router for about £40, then use any Wifi device you like.
No doubt there are other options and 5G etc.

An internet radio with a SIM in it sounds like a phone or tablet with some functions greyed out!

Alternatively, some people are getting very cheap deals for fibre internet, it might be worth considering?
Does he not have a landline or phone at all?
