Taking video on private land

I have a person claiming to have dash cam footage with audio of conversations we had between the two of us , taken on private land under my control
of which i believe he may use for nefarious purposes,

do plod take this kind of thing serious.

I would expect it depends what you said. If they recorded you saying you planned to dole out some violence or other criminality they might be. If you said something innocuous such as how you don't like someone and you think they may try and blackmail you to not tell the other party about it then they may not care.

I get that you won't want to be too specific here but you haven't given much for anyone to base any replies on.

If the nefarious purposes are illegal, the police may take an interest, otherwise they likely won't.

Nothing but private conversation about a deal we were working on,

but to be clear i was asking if plod would be interested in the taking of cam footage on private land, breach of privacy etc

If said deal is illegal then yes they probably will. The land being private is irrelevant.

Even the quickest of quick googles brings up that recording a conversation doesn’t need consent.

If the recording is then shared (has it been?) the waters seem murkier.

I am quietly amused that a cyclist is complaining about someone taking a video.

Seems legal if retained personally, but not for onward sharing.

As with most things legal though, it is money that talks. The legal systems works well for those who can pay it, but if you have shallow pockets it tends to be indifferent.

I remember someone trying to record a meeting I was holding- I told them I simply didn't care, as I would stand by everything I said.

If the person taking the video has done something wrong, I'm guessing they'd not tell you about the video.

Therefore I'm guessing you're in the wrong?

No they won't. It's legal to record somebody as long as it's for personal use. It can potentially be used in Court though.

It's all a bit facemumsbooknet. Unless he tries to blackmail you or the conversation could be interpreted as being whatever counts as a hate crime today plod won't be interested.

I took it that he is privy to some inside information on a possible deal or business opportunity and is threatening to use it for their benefit/disbenefit to the Op

While it is in theory not legal to covertly record then use this recording, I can't see its going to interest the Police as it would possibly be impossible to prove.

Unless it is actually bribery then they might be but it would mean revealing all I believe.
