I have dropped a clanger and cross threaded the bolt in the drivers side outer cv joint to hub, I have it out but am now better off replacing the cv joint with new bolt etc. Having never tackled one on a BMW is it fairly straightforward to just change the joint itself?
Honestly, on an older X1, it's usually easier to just pull the whole half-shaft and swap it with a rebuilt one. Fighting with that joint on the car is a pain.
