Anyone heard news on the grapevine about the 997/87 Gen 2 PCCM+ ? .... could this be the year?

I saw people asking on a Porsche instagram and it was indicated as summer 2026.

Thanks for the update. That is excellent news. Hoping this one has wireless CarPlay and a better resolution screen than that of the Gen 1 version.

I assume this (if it ever appears) will get rid of the CD and SIM card slots? Those look really naff and date the 997's a lot.

I changed to a Panasonic touch-screen head unit in my 997 gen 2 C4S. OEM fit - so looks really good. Got a new amp and door speakers at the same time.

Did the factory upgrade on my 7.1 RS in 2023. Will probably stick with that:

No idea, I still have the 991RS to be done whenever the product shows up. I am not an avid follower of this stuff, just wanted updated nav and integrated bluetooth and have a general preference for OEM upgrades.

yep the next one is for the Gen 2 so it will be a black surround with different button style to match that of the Gen 2 vibe - unsure if dimensions are same between the two models but it wouldn't look right thats for sure.

Dimensions will the be same and it will likely fit physically in any 997 / 987, but the .2 has a different electrical system and the new unit almost certainly won't work in a .1.

Hopefully it'll be miles better than the unit for the .1 which looks fairly crap. But I doubt it.

Hopefully Porsche have listened to the feedback and not gone with a cheap Chinese manufacturer this time around.

What is wrong with the 997.1 PCCM+?

It works pretty much identically to the PCM 4.1 in the 718, Macan and Cayenne etc.

I would imagine the factory fit are all based on Android.

It works well, the display is good, the auto dimming seems to work well as the ambient light changes.

The only niggle is the fact there was no wireless carplay as standard, but then many of the factory units don't have it either.

Wireless Car Play came out in iOS9 2015. The whole purpose of the PCCM+ is to bring things up to date. Not upto 2014 standards.

A laggy and poor low-res screen too...only 800 × 480 pixels! Truly dreadful in my opinion....rather, a truly dreadful missed opportunity.

Personally, I'd say it looks cheap, which is subjective. Objectively, the display is total crap. And as you say, it doesn't have wireless CarPlay, which is pretty pathetic.

It's not totally horrendous, but but it is pretty crap.

From Rennlist

The PCCM+ II unit is also referred to as 2BOT7-PCM3-NA.

User manual: https://fccid.io/2BOT7PCM3NA/User-Ma...Manual-8605...

Highlights from the manual:
Mentions Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/n/ac, so I assume wireless CarPlay will be supported.
Supports CVBS reverse camera video.
Supports MOST / BOSE / Burmester external amplifiers, including references to BOSE Surround and BOSE Linear settings.
Supports DAB.
Supports navigation.
Includes a full list of vehicle options.

Porsche part number for the 997/987: 997.642.601.00 (visible on the stickers here: https://fccid.io/2BOT7PCM3NA/Label/I...n-Info-8605...
Porsche part number for the 991/981: 991.642.601.00

For 991/981 owners: here is the declaration stating that the PCCM+ II for 997/987 and the PCCM+ for 991/981 are the same unit, just with a different appearance: https://fccid.io/2BOT7PCM3NA/Letter/...erence-8605...

And here s the kicker: it seems to be available to order already. If you Google the part number (99764260100), several suppliers show delivery times of 1 4 weeks.

£2,679.37 yikes

for only 720p resolution redcard

Actually, no. You have to factor in screen size. It looks to be similar to the unit for the .1 cars, which is 7-inch. That would work out to roughly 200DPI, which is plenty for this device and also a substantial upgrade on the 800x480 130-ish DPI panel in the .1 Plus device. Now that was a red card.

Pixel density on this new device is actually looking good. As for the rest of the specs and performance, we'll see.

Price is disappointing. What a rip off / blatant cash grab.

Thank you for correcting me. That is good news then as the screen res needed a significant improvement over the .1 version.

Is this actually available to buy? Not sure I would as spent £300 on mr12volt that does the job even if resolution and responsiveness will not be as good as this Porsche item. At almost 10x the price I’m not sure I could justify it!
