Y ello there! I am new to car forums and vehicle discussion and I just have a basic Honda accord LX. but it just about at 100K miles now.

Other than getting high end spark plugs, always using super gas and being ahead of schedule on maintenance and oil changes; what are some other basic advice can you give to maximize Fuel Economy and get this metal box to 250K miles!!

On one go of 450 miles I averaged 43.8 miles to the gallon. Anyone do better for a 4 Cylinder gas only car?

Ok guys. I guess I shoulda Spelled it out better.

I guess my typed question should have been.

What's the best fuel mileage you ever got with a average consumer car with just basic modifications.

of course you can throw your fancy smancy sports cars into that, so long as like you didn't build your own custom engine and overclock it. ( still interesting though!! )

The most obvious change would be to fit low rolling resistance tyres and run them at the pressure specified for high speed / load all the time.

I suspect that fancy plugs and petrol won't give much of an improvement, although the OP appears to be American so maybe their weak ass petrol does give worse economy than the full fat version?

Otherwise, just pump up the tyres, remove any excess weight from the boot and drive 5mph slower....

You could also be unAmerican and walk shorter journeys.

I consistently get 60+mpg out of my 1L 3 cylinder.

Use momentum to my advantage as much as possible.

Sounds like its doing about the best it can if you get anything starting with a 4 for MPG.

Especially considering American gallons are smaller than British gallons. Or are they bigger? Can't remember now...

This reminds me of that episode of top gear where they drove from Belgium to Blackpool on one tank

James may taped all the panel gaps of the car up with gaffer tape, folded in the door mirrors and drove behind Lorry’s to reduce drag and increase fuel consumption

Sounds miserable to me

About 83% of a uk gallon
US gallon = 3.785 litres
UK gallon = 4.55 litres

I find it amusing that we price and buy petrol in litres, but economy is still in miles per gallon.

You may want to try these

Comes in a pack of two, so if you have a 12V socket in the back of your car then its double the saving.

Tyre diameters in inches, width in mm. Unlike wheels where width is in inches. Of course.

Actually if you remove the front and rear windscreens you will see a big improvement in mpg.
