Code reader for Fantic / bikes in general.
Discussion
After 30 blissful miles I’ve got an engine management light showing on my 2-day old Fantic.
Rather than take it back to the dealer immediately I might just buy a reader off Amazon.
Is there a go-to reader for bikes? I probably should buy one that works on cars too. We’ve some German cars that periodically throw up faults.
Any recommendations appreciated.

What a downer after the excitement of a new bike.Rather than take it back to the dealer immediately I might just buy a reader off Amazon.

Can’t help on the reader but make sure the battery is in good condition. Although it’s new it could have gone flat sitting around and while a charge will get it to start the bike the amps could be way down. Modern bike electrics don’t seem to like weak batteries and will throw random codes.
TBH I was concerned when buying my first Italian that I would have issues. I am hoping it isn't going to be the start of a saga.
I've done all the stuff I found online: Cycling the ignition, leaving it idling, disconnecting the battery. The light persists, alongside occasional random error messages.
One says "620 miles left" but doesn't share with me "until what". It could be anything: Explosion, my life expectancy, the second coming of Jesus. Anything.

Think I should stick the C-tek on it overnight? Do they need disconnecting beforehand?
If access is ok you don’t need to disconnect it. Can’t hurt to put it on a smart charger.I speak from experience with the battery. I got a new bike with a yuassa and it was iffy from the off. It started the bike but threw a lot of random codes. As soon as I fitted a new battery all that stopped.

I spoke to the dealer's mechanic earlier and the first words off his lips were "did it start ok" and he then continued with battery-related stuff. So, perhaps low battery is a regular problem.
I'll see how it is in the morning. I am assuming I may need to disconnect the battery again to reset the ECU.

When did the light come on? You d have thought if anything the ride would have topped up the battery.
The start of yesterday's ride. The battery was 3 orange light when I put the C-tek on, which suggests low charge. When I checked earlier all the orange lights were lit. It's yet to go to green.
Now that I have had an error, I was able to Google it and it seems it is a not uncommon problem. I think they are a bit "excitable".
There's a Fantic Caballero Owners Club UK on Facebook, might be worth a look

Pleased it s just that.
I don t know why bikes are so sensitive to a brief under voltage or why there can t be a buffer built in before they throw codes.
Although mine starts ok if the battery isn t 100% it will throw every code it can think of.
The light is the buffer, I guess? I don t know why bikes are so sensitive to a brief under voltage or why there can t be a buffer built in before they throw codes.
