Temporary car insurance issues
Discussion
Hi, I'm looking for some advice, please. Our Son has had a licence for 1year and a few days and a year's no claims bonus. His car is scrap as it'll fail an MOT on a rusty subframe. I have a company car, which my wife doesn't use as parking is a premium at work. I've tried so many different temporary Insurance companies with no luck, five companies have surgested tempcover, they wont even cover for an hour let alone a month, Vergo was a yes at a quite resonable £200 for five weeks cover but then i reread the t&c and its not available for company cars as they wont offer business use, it wont be for business use but computer says no and theres no person on the phone number to chat too. Any other ideas.??? The AA which the car is insured with is over 25s, so that's out.
I have a small budget of around £3500, He currently has a Mercedes A150, and I want to get the same or a B150. There are loads of cars for sale, but when folk can't even bother to wash them before taking photos, I sort of shy away from them. What else can't they be bothered to do??
We drove from Ramsgate to Luton airport yesterday, b160, lovely photos, mot history not too bad, but the mayonnaise was thick and gooey the tyres were swapped from Contis to unknown, and the aircon was blowing lovely and warm. I can't be bothered, hence why I want to find the right car and not rush.

Its not totally clear from your OP what you are trying to achieve? You want to temporarily insure your son on your company car, that is currently insured with AA, who don't cover under-25? You could cancel the AA policy and take out a full new policy with an insurer that does cover under-25? Then cancel again when the car is returned on November. You should get a rebate on unused insurance. Or take out a whole new policy in your son's name on the car and cancel when you find something new for him (or transfer the policy to the new car)? In my experience temporary cover works out more expensive than taking out a full policy then cancelling when you no longer need it

Do you only have the Company car which is sitting unused? Is the Company car with your own company and if so could you not transfer the V5 into your wifes/sons/your name?
It could then presumably be insured with Vergo.

Car insurance terms very often prohibit an insurance product to be sold on a vehicle which is already comprehensively insured as it sets up an obvious liability issue.
Marmalade and Veygo were quite happy (at a price obviously) to insure my kids to drive my wife’s comprehensively insured car. Temporary time or mileage limited insurance is quite common. There aren’t any liability issues that I can see? My son did actually have a (minor) collision and Marmalade paid the third party. The benefit of these sort of arrangements is that the main insurance is unaffected by any claim and the insurer wouldn’t normally even need to be told about it.

All of that energy could be directed at buying a car.
Why does it have to be a Mercedes A150 / B160?
Mercedes are good cars, less likely to be driven hard and serviced correctly, plus excellent safety crash testing and reasonable insurance, servicing isn't too bad and consumables are responsible too. I'm paying so want to keep cost low. Why does it have to be a Mercedes A150 / B160?
