Rear plate options for 570 and how to display UK?
Discussion
First McLaren coming soon… will post more in due course but have an initial question re the rear plate.
Fourdot have been very helpful and I’ve decided on the front plate but can’t decide on the rear. They’ve given me lots of options.
It’s a 6 digit plate. Very pleasantly surprised by the variety of ‘570’ plates that could be purchased from DVLA for £250.
What rear plate do you think suits the car best? Full size? Smallest allowed? What do you do about ‘UK’ display? On the plate or separate UK badge? I’m not putting anything on the paint so no idea where it would go. Do people not bother?
Put up your pics if you’re happy to share. Thanks.
Apologies in advance for the many questions that I will inevitably have about the car once I pick it up.

Congratulations, look forward to seeing/hearing more details in due course
My car (plates done by previous owner):
Full sized Fourdot rear plate, slightly trapezoidal to fill the space

I'd echo 200Plus that a plate which left a noticeably larger gap to the edge of the recess at the sides than the top and bottom would likely look worse.
Separate UK sticker on the black plastic, not the paintwork

I probably think having the UK on the number plates themselves would be neater tbh, but I haven't investigated replacement plate options. My thinking is generally not to offer anything for foreign police to object to, hence not testing the 'don't bother' option.

Thank you for this. Just to confirm then, you have this one on the rear? Would you put the ‘UK’ to the side or at the bottom?

Pretty sure mine are https://www.fourdotdesignerplates.co.uk/product/mc...

Has a 'carbon' background, and the upper corner 'cut offs' are much smaller. (I don't have any real opinion on whether this one is better than the one you linked).
Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean by where to put the "UK". It doesn't look like Fourdot offer the legal UK logo as an add-on on the shaped, 570-specific plates. If it's on the plate it has to go on the left. If you mean the separate UK sticker, I've put it as shown in my second photo above, on the black plastic to the right of the number plate. For a proper, UN-regulation compliant size UK sticker I think that's the only sensible location.

Cheers. I actually just sent you a pm. Sorry to burden you with my indecision making. I think I’ll order the two I’m considering and see which I like the best. A side note the UK sticker. I do regular trips abroad and was always a stickler for the correct signage, after having one fall off and another leave some pretty grimey marks I didn't bother last year. It coincided with getting stopped by the police in three seperate countries, lots of document checking and questions on where have I been/where am I going/where am I staying but not a single mention of the lack of sticker.

I just buy some stick on GB number plate "ends" that sit on the plate itself, 3 quid on ebay for a pair.
After the trip they peel off easily, used them last 3 yrs without any issue, much better than huge GB stickers messing up your paint.

Regarding UK labels why do anything else?

I used to use a magnetic one from Halfords, which is OK if the car has some steel on the back.
Im going to go against the others here regarding size, if your going to buy a short (5 digit) plate then what's the point of sticking it on a std size billboard ?
Looks absolutely stupid in my opinion.
Reference the GB sticker, you can get some nice gel type ones that go on the end of the plate just for the trip.

Glad there’s a consensus here
Appreciate the comments. Going with 2 x rear plates. Both full size and one with a UK rondel and one without. Obviously a complete waste of time and whichever Ibfor first will stay there for my entire ownership.
Next topic will be re CarPlay…
£1500 from Thorney?
£900 from some fella on Facebook that seems legit?
£0 and just use my phone on a cradle?
Then there will be a question on battery conditioning. I’m used to having cars plugged into a CTEK but I heard that the McLaren battery can still die even when connected constantly. Apparently the CTEK unit has to be turned off for say 30mins daily to stop this happening.

Just one of my pet hates along with the police calling any illegal size plate a "chaser plate" (more so on the bikes), in all my time with nice cars I have never met anyone who's intention in fitting a smaller plate was to evade the law ........ its all about looks.

Some fella on Facebook or the owners club if his names Keenan.
My 12c with factory charger was plugged in pretty much all the time for 10 years unless I was going to take it out in the next week.
Always plugged in over winter for X months without issue.
I have started to press the reset button periodically on the 720 as and when.

Have you had CarPlay installed? The guy I saw on FB is not Keenan.
Do you have a link to the owners club?

I use the std McLaren charger plugged in via a timer switch that switches off for an hour every day. No probs with battery level in 2 years.I`ve had 3 McLarens over the last 10 years and when not in use the batteries have been constantly connected to the Mc charger (which is a CTEK btw). I do start the car/use it every 2 weeks or so max, but the car has a lithium battery so no electrolyte to monitor etc and the battery condition is monitored constantly by the batteries own software and the charger. The charger is designed to maintain the battery and will have the software written to cycle the battery as required, if required etc.
I think the internet is full of crap sometimes and one rumour or bit of mis information leads to another.

I have Sport series and GT model CarPlay -Android Auto in stock. £900 delivered. Easy to fit with video instructions.
