Android auto audio
Discussion
I have a 2012 audi A4, B8.5 that has a Bluetooth connection but only for phone calls, not music, that's how its supposed to be. I have since bought one of these units of AliExpress.

Surprisingly it works in principle and I've got the display on the dash. But no sound from the satnav or the music from my phone. Everything works fine in my van with wireless android auto so its not the phone. I know this will get complicated but here goes.
I know it connects via wi-fi and bluetooth when android auto is playing as in my van occasionally the screen drops out but the music continues to play so it must have lost the wifi connection but the BT is still there. However the ali express box has a BT connection and a wifi connection so when my phone hooks up it connects to both of them and not the Audi BT one. So if that's the case how does the box transmit the sound back to the built in radio/amp as the speakers are obviously connected to this and not the ali express box, or is the BT supposed to stay connected to the car BT for audio (if it has it).
Edit : forget it, I've just had an epiphany as I was typing this. I had to set the media input to AUX in on the Audi settings, there is an aux socket in the glovebox and the wiring harness must break into this feed to send the audio back to the head unit. Anyway it may prove useful info for soemone else, fitting it all was fairly straight forward.
