Ferrari owners trying to take the rip out of TVR'S!!

Gaaah!! How I hate badge snobbery!! I get the distinct impression there is a bunch on FChat who like to feel really important because they own a Ferrari, and talk it up as a smokescreen for the fact that they can only afford an older Ferrari, but want to be seen as having bought into an exclusive club, when in fact they're just buying old cars.
I would seriously consider an F355 spider - to my mind the last really pretty Ferrari, and still a truly great driver's car, but I couldn't generate the pomposity and self-elevation that appears to be necessary to own one (judging by the thread you generated on FChat)-(with apologies to Al and his luvverly 348...

Driving any car is about driving - not posing around with a badge stuck up your arse. A T350 is a match for most sports cars in terms of driving pleasure, and would surprise most 348/355 owners...

Good post Nubbin, it does seem the usual Ferrari snobbery. In fact I only know one (now ex) owner who was completly down to earth.
A true Italian born not far from the factory who as a kid used to dream of owning one. Eventually he bought a mint 308 GTS (I think, not up on models) which he loved with a passion. There were no airs and graces from him, in fact he refused ever to come out on a run with us - to quote (read in an Italian accent) "Nah, I not coming out wif you, you car too bloody fast and no one look at me"

I'd suggest your sample size is too small. A lot of decent people own Ferraris, eg some of the regulars over on the PH Fezza forum; Burriana, 456mgt, Frostie etc.

True, but the majority on Fchat have issues with associating with "lesser" car owners. PH is generally a far more open minded group of enthusiasts - with the possible exception of about half of the TVR owners on here.

Oh indeed, perhaps my post doesn't read too well. What I was trying to say was I don't think all owners are like that, only a small minority. Please don't take it as a slur on anyone, just my observation. Infact reading my post in a different tone could suggest that I have yet to meet a snobby Fiat owener

I love TVRs - it was the realisation of a dream when I got my Griff 500 and especially when I took it down to Southern Spain and back.
I then got a Ferrari and after one and a half weeks of ownership hammered it across Europe and up and down the Alps in the company of Daz, Nubbin and Oggs and about 20 other P.Headers.
I was lucky to have both the Ferrari and the Griff for a couple of months and fact:
- The Ferrari is in real time, faster than the Griff 500
- The bonnet does not wobble at speeds of over 140mph
- It sounds better and louder than the Griff
- The build quality is light years ahead of the Griff
- The handling is far better than the Griff
- The sheer feel good factor, whilst amazing in the TVR, pales into insignificance when you are sat in the Ferrari.
And my Griff was one of the good ones.
Like I said, I love TVRs and would dearly like to try a Tuscan, even the wife likes Tuscans ... but I simply daren't for the obvious reason.
There are no more tossers on F.Chat than there are on here, and the vast majority do not have the badge snobbery.
Oh, and you'll find that most Ferrari owners do know that the first 308s were GRP lightweights and, are actually quite a sought after car... the engineering was still bloody superb though.
All this aside, we all know the inter-marque banter that goes on and the original poster should really have known what to expect, asking if anyone on F.Chat would swap a Ferrari for a TVR that has already needed one engine rebuild.
Ah, but Al, you are comparing an 'old' TVR, which correct me if I'm wrong, was a crash repaired vehicle. Value ? Circa £ 15,000, against a Ferrari 348, value circa £ 40,000 (?).
Not really comparable are they.
Now, go test drive a 40k TVR and compare like for like, i.e handling, performance. I'll give you the noise thing, but hey, as meatloaf said, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
As for the 'feeling' thing, I can see where you're coming from, as Ferrari is meant to be the 'ultimate' car manufacturer, and therefore to say you own one I suspect is a good feeling indeed.
However, Ferrari is also meant to be associated with speed, and for me buying an old one which performs not much better than an top end hatchback would quench the 'feel good factor' (especially at the track lights against the pr!ck in the Type R - as they all seem to be).
