Hi all,

Just after an opinion. I have a 2015 2.0TDI with the CRLB engine. The engine is using circa 1 litre of oil per 350 miles. I have had the CCV changed and the turbo, but its just as bad. The rest of the car is excellent, and i am loathed to go down the PCP route that we all seem to be getting forced down. I am considering a good quality remanufactured engine from someone like Ivor Searle. Has anyone had any experience of doing this and how did it go? Did it pay off, not in terms of car value obviously, but when compared to the possible 20 to 30k newer car alternative.

I prefer to keep and maintain my cars, although this option seems to getting taken away from us in favour of a lifelong monthly bill akin to a second mortgage. I need a car like this as i tow a caravan.

Any opinions/experiences gratefully received,

Mac

Will a replacement engine cure the problem though, I don`t think I would be willing to take that risk.
I had a Mk5 Golf Gti that liked a drink of oil, nothing like yours though but seems be be a common Vag issue. Think its related to piston/ring sealing issues.
Various stuff online suggested some oils were better than others, I am not sure if you service it yourself?
Might be worth doing some research and using a slightly thicker viscosity if possible to see if you can cut it down a bit, think the Golf was originally specified a 5/30 and most used a 5/40.
A litre per 1000 miles was seen as the norm from memory.

I would hope that it would. It would be a full remanufacture, so all machined points put back to tollerance. This particular supplier remans to BS standard and runs the engine on a test rig. I know what you mean though, its a good chunk of money to experiment with. I just dont want all the fragile and expensive crap that comes with the later engines. Ie i dont want expensive fail points like a dsg. This has a nice solid manual. Its a nightmare decision!

Difficult decision really, I would be inclined to just live with it and buy the oil in bulk 20 L format which usually costs around £80 so if you could get a year out of it that its not the end of the world, all be it a pita.
