Hi, we are paying silly money at the moment for sky Q and am keen to get rid of it. We mostly watch the main 5 channels plus news etc. we like the recording functionality to avoid faf of online streaming with non skippable ads.

I saw some posts earlier about some freesat boxes being compatible with sky dish. How do I check? Our sky dish is over 10 years old and I can probably access it to check more details but don't know exactly what needs to be. Checked for freesat compatibility?

Thanks

An existing sky dish should be compatible with freesat. Do you have a satellite tuner in your TV? Many TVs offer recording capability to a usb drive - may be an option. Usually limited to a single channel at a time though.

I've got a Manhattan box that uses the old Sky cables for Freesat and works a charm.

From memory, if you have Sky Q, you likely have an updated Sky dish that won't work with all Freesat boxes.

Online search suggests:

"Sky Q Dishes: If you are moving from Sky Q, the current "Freesat 4K" branded hardware will work.
Sky+ Dishes: Older Sky+ dishes are generally compatible with all Freesat boxes using standard Universal LNBs."

May be worth a bit of digging before purchase to make sure your dish is compatible with whatever box you find.
