Insurance.....have i got this right?
Discussion
neighbour and i garage is a ' semi detached'type. with a shared middle dividing wall..with three transverse beams going from outer wall through the middle to the other side. the roof is secured to these i have noticed over the years rain ingress on my side with the drips tavelling the length along the lower bends of the asbestos corrugated roof.
i have resealed the join over the years. and the neighbours , several over the years have never mention water getting ibto their side.. New neighbours have had their side changed to a flat roof and recently they have been getting water in their side. we both thought that the replacement had not been sealed correctly. The builder suggested he visit the next time it rained, which was yesterday. We noticed that the water on my side was running along ine of the beams, which cieesponded with the water damage on his side. Buikder recommended my roof being sealed.. about 1k Neighbour is going to go through his ins which no doubt will get onto mine i will not be covered due to deteriation so the sealing is down to me..
Have i got this correct But who If anyone will pay the excess?. Good neighbours so no fall out reqd

The insurer will generally cover the consequences of water ingress but not its correction. So your roof leaks and you are on holiday and the carpets are mouldy and the chipboard floor swollen they will pay for that but the repair of the roof is down to you.
However ... you will have warranted to keep the property in good repair. So if the roof was basically ok but there was a storm that blew off some tiles that caused the leak then that would probably be covered if the roof was generally viewed as serviceable, but if the roof was just knackered and it was obvious with general leaks then it would not be.
Viz neighbours if your house burns down and then sets your neighbours on fire as well that is not your issue - unless you were negligent.
So the only way the neighbours can pin it on you is if you are negligent.
Are you ? Maybe. Maybe not. A garage with a small leak that does not particularly bother you I suspect could be discussed either way - but none of us have seen th garage !

A bit shorter with questions
My garage roof has leaked through the bolts/screws holding the roof to the crossbeams
As a result the water has travelled along the cross beams into my neighbours garage ( we share the middle wall) and caused damage
As i understand it i cannot claim on my insurance for repairs as they are considered wear and tear. So i pay to get my roof fixed
Questions
Does he put his initial claim on his ins.co as it is not his roof causing the damage?
Am i right in saying his ins will negotiate with my ins to pay?
There is normally an excess to pay.
.
Will his ins get him to pay it?
Does he then claim that back on my ins ( possibly via his) meaning i pay his excess?
I dont want to fall out with him , they are really great neighbours,
