981 Boxster S - Getting some upgrades... What have I missed?
Discussion
Hi Folks,
I've got a 2013 981 Boxster S (as per here - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... ) and I'm going to get a few bits and pieces done.
As is ever the case, I might not be aware of other things to consider when doing these parts, so appreciate any insight please.
Brakes
I loved the feel on my 987.1 Cayman S after I uprated it all and got the GT3 Master cylinder, so I'm going to do the same here:
- 997 GT3 Master Cylinder (TRW PMN166)
- Brembo Sport TY3 Discs front and rear
- Brembo Sport HP2 Pads front and rear
- Titanium bleed nipples
- HEL Braided Hoses
- RBF600 Fluid
- GT3 Front brake ducts
- GT4 Rear Brake ducts (car has PTV+, so rear cooling seems worthwhile)
I think that should be a really decent upgrade. The current discs and pads need replacing, and things like the bleed nipples and braided hoses are more preventative maintenace as the car is 12 years old.
Handling
The car has PASM, so whilst it looks like I could fit X73 springs, it doesn't look like my PASM dampers will thank me. My thought is when the dampers start to go, I'll replace the springs and dampers with a set of Bilstein B16 Damptronic.
I've already coded the EPS to GT3 which feels mega, and the car is also going to get a full alignment.
- X73 Front ARB and bushes
- X73 Rear ARB and bushes
- DSC Sport V3 Control box for the PASM
That I believe should help give me some more front end feel, remove some of the undertsteer tendencies, and with the DSC Sport should make the car less prone to diving on B roads under heaving braking, as well as making things more compliant during daily use.
Power
As we know Porsche left power on the table with this engine, getting~340 bhp in a 991 Carrera. From what i can tell the best thing to go for is:
-BMC Air Filters
-200 Cell Manifolds (probably Topgear as I'm not sure I can justify £3k for Soul/Fabspeed !)
-A suitable remap for both the engine and gearbox.
Reading around, I should be in the ~370 HP range for that setup, which feels plenty. Importantly it will make it rev more freely and feel much stronger up top. The Car has factory fit PSE, so it should be quite acceptable without the lairy button pressed !
Are there other 'must do' things when I'm getting these changes done?

I dont think the GT3 master cylinder will fit. I did the GT3 master cylinder mod to my previous 997.2 CS but when I got my 981 CGTS I looked into it and didn't seem like a goer.
Rear brake ducts - IMHO not worth it. I had my CGTS around Spa and was doing some 911's etc under brakes and with Ferodo DS2500 pads on the front and new standard Textar pads on the back I had no brake fade or wear on the rears. Embarrarssingly, those same rear pads are barely half worn after 20k.
I'd definately recommend the DS2500 pads though. Seem kind on discs, have a reasonable temp range from cold and dust isn't too savage.(Years ago, when I used to do a bit of tarmac rallying, Mintex used to give me loads - several sets per event- of prototype carbon ceramic pads to try. I have a rough idea therefore on pads...)
Better brake lines sound like a good mod though.
Good luck!
