Don’t know if anyone’s seen it but Scottish Widows are offering a low cost SIPP (via Embark Investment Services) and does anyone have experience transferring their existing SIPP to this provider (or any other) themselves without the use of an FA? Is it something doable yourself and what are the risks/downsides? I’m pretty sure there are no valuable features associated with my current pension.

I can't answer specifically but would ring up SW and ask 'Can I transfer my SIPP of £x value to you without an IFA, and if so how would I go about it please?'

I transferred a £140K SIPP last year and nobody mentioned FAs.

NB The pension may be 'low cost' but consider the investments within. Do you know or get a choice?

I transferred a SIPP from Zurich to Vanguard without input from an IFA and it all went very smooth

Most pension providers use the Origo Tranfer service. It’s always been very easy when transferring occupational pensions into my SIPP when the providers use Origo. The only slight exception was getting a Nest pension transferred in, as they required a signed declaration. In all other cases it happened electronically.

I see Scottish Widows use Origo. As long as your current provider does too it’ll be easy.
