Dunlop track tyre

Just spoken to a nice fella at the motorsport section of Dunlop in Brum and he said that the SSR track day tyre is out of production and they have no more in stock. :-(
He also said that they are trying to get them (factory in Germany?) to make some more, possibly to supply customers who have committed themselves for the season.
He also said that a new tyre is in development (with a new name) that should be ready in a year or so. :-)

I'm not sure that this is believable, but Dunlop UK told me that although sales of the SSR were consistent and strong, the tyres did not sell well on the Continent, and because the Continental part of D. were producing the tyre, they lost interest when their local market disappointed.
I get an idea of prices from here.

thats 225/235 on the front and 285 on the rears??

I just took delivery of some Dunlop SSR's today (265 18s), a friend just got some 225 and 245 17s. Speak to Dan at Mr Tyre (search on google). They don't have 225 or 235 18s, but what they have is pretty cheap - all around £100 / tyre vs £200+ for Michelin Cups (which are better in the dry).
Corsas are similar price to Cups so why accept the compromise and not just get Cups for dry / damp weather?
I only got the SSR because I'm taking my RS to the Ring in Nov and my SSR rears are looking too worn for the inevitable drive back in snow...

I bought a set of these tyres from Camskill (235/40/18). The SSR are indeed, out of production but there is a replacement tyre due out by the end of the year, called the "DSSR" and will offer similar characteristics.
In the interim, Camskill recommend the Hankook RS2 tyre. I drive an Evo VII and the SSR seems to be the only tyre that you can use on the road which offers the same characteristics as the (now out of production) legendary Yokohama A046 tyre.
The SSR's do go off very quickly on a dry track but from all accounts, are excellent in the wet. My other option was the Toyo T1-R.
I use Dunlop D01-J's for dry weather trackdays

cheers steve....going to blow these ssrs off this weekend and probably order the corsas.
You dont know where I can order some pads quickly do you? (I get 5 or 6 days out of a standard road set)
My pads are a bit low, but will be ok for saturday, but just in case I destroy them, Id like to bring a set with me to fit if I need.

Pads are not cheap but very hard wearing and great at stopping the car over and over again.
Company and pads are first class.
