Elon Musk announced the sunsetting of the Models S & X, shortly replacing their factory space with Optimus robot production lines.

A sad day really - the S in particular is an extremely fine car, even after all this time. Certainly one of the most important cars of the past few decades.

They’ve been LHD only and out of the UK market for a while already, but still a shame to see them go.

Pretty old models that no longer sell well. I suspect the stainless truck will go next as sales are also poor.

Leaving an ageing 3+Y and nothing else in the line up.

Shame, with the billions in profit they should have a huge line up of models by now.

I was never a fan. Nothing to do with politics. I hated the huge screen and could not warm to the cars anyway. That being said a very inportant car in history, especially the establishment of charging stations.

Perhaps they are too American with their thinking hence why they haven't made a smaller car that would be the natural instinct for a European or Asian brand.

The Cybertruck was definitely a wasted opportunity to make an electric work truck (along with a van).

But it isn't. As per the OP, it's robots.

Sure. I was referring to the next planned vehicle in their line up. As to robots - the OP stated that the factory space being used by S and X was being re-allocated to building robots

I was underthe impression they weren't planning any new vehicles, but he was just going to play with the new shiny thing.

They’ve not announced whether we’ll be able to buy the cybercab or how many they plan to make, it might not even be a retail proposition

But I’m one that mourned the Model S not coming back in RHD form 5 or so years ago, I had one as my first EV over 10 years ago before even AP1 was activated. To see it go altogether is sad as I’m sure there’s still a place for a halo car, but it needed a ground up reboot, steer by wire, 800v battery etc.

They still say they’re doing the roadster 2, but surely that’s dead too given it seemed so similar to the Plaid.

The new Roadster is definitely coming - unveil (again!) is April this year. It’ll essentially be their last car you can drive yourself, which is really sad because, while I’m sure it’ll be awesome, it’s not something most will be able to afford to enjoy.

I think the best thing in this situation is apply the Plaid motors and know how into a Plaid 3 / Y, but I fear this isn’t straightforward as the battery pack would also need changing for higher peak output.

As for the Cybercab, they stated that they plan to make more of these than everything else combined, so presumably punters will be able to buy these for themselves at those numbers.

If the Optimus robot is doing anything useful within 10 years I'll eat my hat. For the rich/wealthy or fools to just show off.

It was a shame the new S didn’t come to the UK in RHD, it would have been the logical step up from my model 3.

Unless I’m mistaken Tesla aren’t competitive in the robot, self driving sphere at the moment. It’s probably some bs to keep the share price high.

They had an open goal and somehow managed to hit the post and get a ball to the plums.

What is interesting is the lack of a replacement strategy.

Put on some new tires on the X today as they really needed changing, the front have about 10-15k of life left.

Probably the last consumable cost I'll spend on the X before we replace it with something else. It's coming up to 10 years since we ordered a S (which we than changed to the X).

As a consumer I think I'm just attracted to odd brands that have a high risk for failure, like Tesla back in 2015/16. Tesla as mainstream brand in 2026 with a pivot on their mission statement have no interest for me.

I suspect I wouldn't own another car as long as our X, the sad bit I'll always remember Tesla as the brand that made me totally lose interest in cars.
