Not much on this but it appears something happened at/near DeMontfort university in Leicester last night

The Police have large areas cordoned off and said they are dealing with "Very Serious Incident" that occurred around 6pm

spokesperson for DMU said: “We are aware of a very serious incident on our campus this evening. We are working with Leicestershire Police as they launch an immediate investigation.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened. We are offering direct support to students and staff who witnessed the incident

But nobody is saying what the incident is

If the police could confidently say "three people were stabbed, and we currently understand this to be the results of an altercation due to a road rage incident" then presumably they would. So there must be some factors complicating it.

It's not going to be anything nice, though. Presumably the loved ones of those involved are somewhere, having their worst day ever.

Newarke street is a racetrack even at rush hour. As a nonresident, I’m always baffled that you never see a cop in the area

Seems a student at the uni was stabbed after getting into an "altercation" with another male who then fled the scene

An 18 yo subsequently arrested

Still very light on detail

It's rare an isolated murder gets so much attention isn't it? Nearly two per day per annum I believe.

I'm sure it will all come to light eventually.

This is true but perhaps it has gained the reaction it has because the police and relevant persons went radio silent

A Simple statement last night stating that a male had been stabbed and another arrested would have quelled the story

Why the comms team didn't is another question

Local councillors have said that "We will seek to discuss this incident and other worrying incidents that have recently occurred in our city with the police."

Leicester is known for having a diverse demographic - I wonder if Police are concerned that the motive may be race related and don't want the situation to escalate.

Well ..

By not telling us anything they are fueling speculation aren't they ?

An infomation void is never good, you'd think they'd have learnt that after Southport

Surely the Police will need to investigate before they can say if the incident was racially motivated or not?

I can't see how the Police stating that it might or might not be race related would be helpful.

Race related? Or country of origin/ residency status related?
