How much?

I have too many cars, have decided to sell one and therefore would like to do so sooner rather than later and want to price it accordingly.

I don't want to sell it for a give away price, but then again I realise no-one really buys sports cars at this time of year and don't want to sit on it for many months because I'm holding out for <i>'insert number here'</i> money.

Thing is I don't know where to start and was hoping some PH'ers might give me some indications.

The car is a 1983 911 SC Targa Sport (ie. with the tale) and full leather (black) interior. Its done 96k miles and drives extremely well. Has 11 months MOT, recent full service, could do with some new tyres and possibly some front shocks. The body work is generally "good", but not perfect and could do with some attention to rust spots bubbling (most tiny/minor, 1 about the size of a mobile phone). It also has air conditioning, but this doesn't work. Its a standard UK right hand drive model and its got a fair bit of history.

I've tried to price it myself but quite frankly it seems very difficult with similar aged cars that are for sale being majorly different - some in concours condition, some LHD, some not Sport/Targa and some on monster mileage.

Can anyone help/advise/point me in some direction?

My guess is about 9k for a private sale. I guess most comments will be in the 8-10k area, but it depends on how the wind blows.

I saw a lovely white coupe with little seemingly wrong for 7995 (privately) at a show a few months back.

That said, expect poorcardealer and rubystone to wade in and say it's not worth a penny more than 5k

I'd say it'd fetcha good price although if it'son of those red/pinky coloured one's they depreciate the most as no one wants them. You'd be very lucky to sell it.

I'd say no more that £3.5k for one of those, even then you're pushing top money.

Is the rust patch sony ericsson sized or more original Motorola "brick" ?

Did someone mention my name? Frankly, anyone doing their research will spot the rust and factor in the cost of new panels and paint before they bid you on the car - assuming that the rot is in the usual places - i.e. front wings - and not around rear wings, targa window or front screen, in which case repair is more costly.

I've seen cars of this description up for £6k - personally, I'd be looking for a nice car for £9k and would factor in about £4k to sort the bodywork on this car (I'm fussy) ...which values the car at £5k as is....

Why not ebay it with an honest description and photos - a tip here - don't list loads of photos on ebay, much cheaper to add a link to pix on webshots or similar website or supply an email address in the advert and then mail a whole sheaf of photos out to any enquirers

I disagree, it'll be worth about the same as a 1991 Mondeo. LX spec so not all bad.

Oh no, they've been done. This is tiny bubbles around front lights and rear screen. The bit the size of a phone is at the door

Didnt know Mondeos were around in 91

There are plenty of very nice SCs around for £9-10K, I think I would ask £7995 in the Autotrader or wherever, some good advice given above, for a quick sale ebay is the place, although I would have thought £6-7K on there is the most you can expect.

You doon't say what colour it is....if it's a non-metallic, why not get the paint tidied up? - well worth it on the door - if the rest of the body is tidy then you'll stand a much better chance of selling it with tidy paint.

This probably wont be very helpful - but why not sell one (or more) of your other cars and keep the targa, get paintwork done over winter and sell at Top money in spring when people want the open top motoring???!

From your description assuming its a 'normal' colour would have said around £6.5k-£7k as the bodywork / tyres are going to scare off first timers and experts alike!

One of the cars is a "non sports car" for taking kids to school, shopping, etc. The other car is a convertible, worth an awful lot more and won't sell at this time of year. The plan was to sell the two sports cars and get a newer 911. I just feel silly having 3 cars and only using the shopping one - particularly in the winter!

I think I have made the paintwork sound awful - it not bad at all and polished it looks fantastic. I'm just being perhaps too honest!? Hmm, will put thought into that when considering the eBay ad I think (pictures rather than words).

I'd suggest selling both. The convertible will still get "enough" bearing in mind the amount you lose now you will probably lose in depreciation over the winter months (with a another new 06 reg coming too).

This is if your convertible is relatively new of course which I would suggest it is using my amazing powers of ESP.

Once you have then sold both the 911 and the convertible then you should have enough money for a nice 993. at about 24-26k with a few grand to spend getting it right. Alternatively there's a fantastic 964 turbo for sale in the classifieds which looks amazing!! :-)

Someone got one hell of a bargain, but as it was a mate that's ok
