Breakdown cover renewal jump!
Discussion
Christ, I'm glad I paid attention to my emails. Got a notification through from one of the big two that my personal breakdown cover was going up from about £200 a year to about £750. I can't see how that is even remotely justifiable. I think I had one call out in the 2 years I was with them (and the call out was not after the £200 quote).
Gone with the AA now.
I did look at Green flag who I've had very good experience with and looked at a couple more, but a lot of them want the car/bike (even with personal cover) to be less than 20 years old. Our family daily drivers are 24, 15, and 40 years old. Plus a 51 year old motorbike.

And no doubt on renewal the AA will probably double this years price.
I find this happens to me every year with the initial renewal and I phone them ( press 2 for cancellations ) and they simply reduce the price to the same or slightly less than expiring.
Been with them for years and only the occasional call out.
Irritating but for the sake of a 5 minute call not the end of the world.

Very inexpensive, I have both my wife and me on them for a total of 75 quid a year.
I used them for the first time this week as my wifes car brokedown. One phone call which resulted in the text that automatically loaded their app. It filled in my GPS location automiatcally and then I paid 25 quid uplifet as her car is over 9 years old. (which I knew about from when I took out the policy)
Within 10 mins of logging the breakdown I had a recovery vehicle driver call me and say he was on his way. He was from out of the area as they were very busy that night. I told he exactly where we were and he arrived 48 minutes later. Car was loaded on his truck and taken to my house and we were back in the comfort of our own him within 2 hours of making the first call.
Autoaid called me 10 mins later to check that eveything was ok with the recovery and ensure we were happy with the service.
Literally couldn't fault them.

I get my AA cover with my bank account. The only part I actually pay for is the extra warranty, everything else (relay, breakdown & home start) is covered by my monthly payment for the account. If it was to go up by even half of that amount, I would bin both the AA and the bank as there are plenty of other options out there.
I have old bikes and cars and go for personal cover. RAC and AA don't have age restrictions, just has to be UK registered. I can get personal cover for under £100 but I don't need home cover. If it's THAT broken, I'll try to fix it myself or have it collected.
RAC do it for only £40 with a £40 excess callout. I used them once last May.

Who hiked up the price, so we can avoid them ?Gone with the AA now.

Ever called them out?GEM Motoring Assist don't seem to play that game - it goes up a bit every now and again, but the quote will be the same whether it's your first year with them or the fifth!
There is also no age limit on the cars they cover - it's personal cover whatever car you're in, even if you're a passenger.
