Not sure if this is the correct section to ask this or not but local to me there is some sort of small transport hub/truck stop where lorries come and go most of the day, maybe for overnight parking although I'm not really sure of its purpose. But occasionally, maybe every few weeks or so in the early hours of the morning, could be 3AM, 4AM whatever we are awoken suddenly by an extremely loud truck horn, sometimes it sounds for 20 or 30 seconds at a time, this morning it was about 5.30 and it was a blast of about 10 seconds. It sounded more like a train horn than a truck horn as well. Didn't help that my bedroom window was open.

Now I cant be sure its actually happening at the truck stop as I cant see it from my house but the sound was definitely stationary as you can tell when a horn is pressed on the move and there wouldn't be any other reason for a truck to be stationary anywhere else in the immediate area.

I reckon the yard is understaffed and its the only way the truck driver can get anyone to unlock the gate, but that isn't our problem and no-one should be waking up a whole area just to get their own way. It could be just one obnoxious driver or maybe they all do it occasionally I have no idea but what I cant understand is there are houses a lot close to the yard than me, how has the driver not been dragged out of the cab and given a good hiding yet?

Anyway how do we go about resolving this, my next door neighbour has tried contacting someone at some point but got nowhere yet.

Its Just Adz

A long sound of the horn is excessive, especially at that time of the morning.
However, checking the horn works is part of the mandatory safety check before a driver starts his shift.
I tend to give mine just a quick "pip pip".

It's a tricky situation, pretty much impossible to resolve as most drivers will sound their horn to get a gate/door opened. You can try to educate one driver then another comes along.

I used to run a 24 hour commercial vehicle dealership. We had a visit from the council because we were (inevitably) a noise problem to our residential neighbours.

We agreed to keep the roller shutter doors down to try to contain the noise of radio, banging, and hydraulics etc.

The very first night our customers turned up & blasted their horns to gain access.

Ah, I was thinking no-one read this forum, it might be a tricky situation but the law says you shouldn't use your horn after 10PM or 11 is it, obviously because it wakes people up who need to sleep I would have thought. Why can't they use their phone to get attention?

Same with taxi drivers, they turn up for a fair and instead of getting out or sending a text etc they just blast the horn until someone comes out. It just strikes me as an attitude that says I'm more important that anyone else, they are basically saying I don't care if you are half asleep at work and fall into the guillotine you are manning I need to get the plastic tat to the Amazon customers so tough st.

It's actually more than that. It's more "I've got to work so why should you able to be comfy in bed"!
