armed robbery with Ak47's on armoured car on Italian motorway, gunfight with cops, high speed car chases

It's just a movie ... oh no it isn't

"ITALY: An armed gang carried out a daylight assault on an armored cash in transit van in southern Italy this morning. The attack targeted a BTV armored vehicle on the SS 613 highway between Lecce and Brindisi, near the Tuturano exit in the Puglia region.

According to Italian media, at least 8 gunmen, some posing as police with flashing lights, blocked the road by setting vehicles on fire. The attackers used explosives to breach the van and exchanged gunfire with responding Carabinieri patrols. No injuries or fatalities were reported. Two suspects were detained during the escape"

The getaway car was an Alfa, no wonder they got caught.

I initially thought it was AI when I first saw it. The report I read said they made off with €2.3m.

Anyone know if there's any truth in that? It looked like a fairly professional job.

I think some of them got caught and the money recovered, a couple of them might still be on the run, I don't have a link for that though.

Extra points for style and effort though.

Agreed. That was a big blast and could easily have killed someone on the opposite carriageway.

If you look closely at the blown-up van ( side panels ), you will see some kind of "builder´s foam" drooling out.

German news told yesterday that this foam was set free inside as part of the alarm system in the van,

rendering all notes unusable by glueing them together in a big sticky mess of a foam blob.

If true, quite smart.

This is common in this area of Italy, e.g. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46763040, I suspect the foam was invented as a result.

They were pretending to be police, probably used an actual police car too instead of sorting out a regular one into the right colour.

If you ever wondered who'd keep buying Alfas and Maseratis the Italian State is quite keen on them.

Also not a surprise it's Puglia, spent too much time around that part of the world and the organised crime isn't exactly hard to spot and it's *everywhere*.

Fingers in every pie.
