Just butting heads with Mrs Chippy.

She wants to got to Poland "long weekend break"

Birmingham to Krakow jet2, Friday till Monday car hire hotel close to Krakow, visit auschwitz.

My point is, its 2 days traveling so only really 2 days break and a lot of hassle, hear me out

Parking and B-ham, bag drop, security, flight, security bag collect car hire 8 hrs, the reverse the same, just a lot of stress for 2 days.

By comparison if we fly to Italy or Spain ETC we go for minimum 6 days also not adviser to driving to Germany / Italy but the drive for me is not a stress, 8/ 16 hrs of airport, security car hire ETC is not worth 2 days.

What'll happen if you do?

No way would I bother hiring a car for one solitary journey when there are very slick operations that take you there.

Krakow isn't exactly superhighways and mcmansions either. It'll be a prime pain up the arse the rest of the time.

Think I was there for 3 nights which felt about right.

If the flying is at peak times I can see why it feels like a grind. Wouldn't mind if it was quiet.

that's a very negative way of saying:

"Drive to the airport, have a full english and a pint, get on plane"

I mean hosetly, it's that or sit in front of a TV.

I've never been, but I'm told by people that have that it's very upsetting.

Not as upsetting as sitting on a bus for 90 minutes of course.

You only need cabin baggage for such a short trip. So, no 'bag drop' hassle.

This is the way! - didn't even register - bag drop for a weekend! - we do a month at a time, at least, just with one overhead and two underseat bags.

OP - try and see the airport as part of the holiday - go a little early, enjoy a fry up and a stroll (I don't know what Birmingham airport is like mind you)

Airport a hassle?!

Get a f*cking grip man; B'ham is a small, quite efficient regional airport. From getting out of the car to sitting in your seat on the aircraft takes max 40 minutes rolleyes

It’s a perfect weekend trip. Uber / Bolt is dirt cheap in Poland so just use those.

OP I have done 3 day city breaks all across Europe with various groups of friends and IMO its the sweet spot for a city break abroad, some cities such as Berlin, Athens or Budapest can warrant 5 days so you can always return if you like a particular city enough to revisit.

As others have said do not hire a car in Krakow, the very centre is a historic city with narrow streets full of people. Car parking limits your hotel options and add time to and from the airport. All that just to drive to Auschwitz? we hired a private taxi which might be cheaper than a hire car for 3 days.

Also as other have said travel light with only hand luggage, much quicker overall and its easier.

If you can grab a mid morning flight, Krakow is only 2 hours and you can be out exploring the city by 3-4pm.

Does it have to be Jet2? countries like Poland have dozens of flights to and from the UK everyday, with Krakow and Warsaw having the most flights.

Krakow is one of the many amazing cities I have been to in Europe, it would be a shame for you to miss it when tweeting your itinerary will make it a pleasant trip.

The train there is very easy from Krakov centre. I wouldn't bother though it's just a tourist trap really.

Long weekend, no bag drop, just hand luggage. Check in online. No hire car, that's crazy for Krakow / Auchwitz. An early flight and you'll be in your hotel by lunchtime.

Friday afternoon and evening, all day Saturday and Sunday, and maybe Monday morning depending on flight times back. What's not to like?

I think if you like flying, airports and convenience it's probably okay.

If not then it feels stressful and rushed.
