Coolant hose weep, any magic potions that can help?
Discussion
I've got a little weep of coolant on my NA MX5 where the bottom rad hose joins to the water pump inlet. I replaced the hose itself last year and it didn't help. So this weekend I took the actual water pump metal inlet off to inspect and found that a previous owner has managed to put a few long shallow scratches along the fitting, presumably using a screwdriver to get a stuck rubber hose off (been there, done that!). I spent a while with wet and dry and dremel tidying it up yesterday. It hasn't fully removed the scuffs but they are now broken up (so no continuous channel for water to travel along) and I can no longer feel them with my nail.
I'm actually pretty confident it'll now seal just fine but I'm also paranoid so I wondered if there was anything I could smear around the fitting to just make sure? I could replace the part but it's £100+ and seems wasteful to be honest as it otherwise looks new. I will be replacing the rubber hose and clip again though just to be on the safe side.

Personally, I wouldn't put anything on it.
What I would do is to make sure you have a proper hose clamp rather than a jubilee clip, and if you are REALLY paranoid, make sure it is on a different part of the hose that hasn't previously been crushed.
Cheers. I've actually just ordered a set of OEM wire clamps. For all, I don't like them, they do seem to work. The hose will be new so no worries on positioning.
