Ok, so my wife has a Tesla Model 3 ordered up on Salary Sacrifice, which being a four door saloon and being silly cheap to run, will become our daily driver.

Shes keeping her Z4 as her weekend / fun car, but my C43 saloon will be pretty much superfluous.

Options range from selling it and -

=> put the money back in to savings (the most sensible idea but the most boring also).

=> buy a fun cheapish runabout (could be fun. Lots of down the money cheaper stuff about that arent a big commitment)

=> buy something a bit more heavy duty, bearing in mind it doesnt need to be a daily.

Leaning towards option 3 at the minute.

Pre-reqs would be,

=> i might want to move the car on in a years time and i dont want to blow my brains out on depreciation, so something that'll hold its value well would be key.

=> i currently dont have garage space for something that really should be garaged - its going to be something that sits out all of the time. This would probably rule out things like an E46 M3 or a Z4M as they'd be better kept dry given age.

=> Budget.... probably up to £25K. £30K at a push. Gut feeling is spending £50K on a car would result in the risk of notable depreciation and previous experience tells me that once you break £25K to £30K ish your number of prospective buyers drops off notably.

Candidates i've come up with -

Late model E92 M3. Probably a 2012 / 2013 car.

BMW M5. The later V8 type, not the V10.

M2 OG. Had one before, loved it, slight fear i'd be going back over old ground and theres other cars out there i should try.

M2 Comp. Not wholly feeling the love. Doesnt sound as good as the OG. Found the OG to be more than quick enough for public roads. But one may be an option.

Mercedes C63. Expensive to buy, glorious engine, but likely would be a saloon variant which i dont really need.

Cross country fun....

Yaris GRY. We live within a few miles of a Toyota main dealer. 7 year warranty. A lot of FUN.

GR86. We live within a few miles of a Toyota main dealer. 7 year warranty. A lot of FUN.

Any comments / thoughts on any of the above? Specifically fun factor, driving pleasure, residual values being strong?

Anything i should also be looking at?

I’m looking at spending 25k on a weekend toy again.

E92 m3 and og m2 are on the list. I have had an m2 comp before, great cars.

I’m a bit of a French hot hatch nut so the 300 trophy is also on my list, had a couple before and love them.

Not really sure what else to consider.

Cayman would be a good call actually. 718 2.5T maybe?

Would be top of the budget but might be worth it.

I've seen the one locally, although red wouldnt do it for me in them.

Whats your thoughts on an M4?

Theres been a couple of completely standard non Comps have come up near to me and i do keep clicking back to them.

This is one of them. I liked the relative simplicity of the looks of this.

M4 cab before the weather improves.

Focus RS.

The Yaris is competent but dull in comparison to these or the Cayman.

Renault lovely but a depreciation risk, GR86 a bit flat compared to your Merc.

Wildcard, harder to shift maybe, Merc SL. Now that's an event.

Maybe M3 territory too, don`t see many on the roads really.

I wouldn’t go for an M5, at your budget you will be looking at an F10 which have some significant reliability issues around the engine which can kill itself. Your budget won’t stretch to the much more desirable F90.
