Something loud just flown over Sheffield at 18:10 couldn t see it on ads-b exchange or air nav.

There was a Beluga around the same time but it was at 26k … See that pretty often and it doesn’t sound that loud.

I live on the flight path to Hawarden (Airbus broughton) where the Beluga lands 2 or 3 times a day.
Flys directly over my house at about 1500ft.
Yes you can hear it, but wouldnt say its loud really.

Hello wizards!

On the "what was that" front.

A big military (?) plane with four propellor engines (maybe) and a long probe at the front flew over the A14 just west of Cambridge about 10.40 yesterday. (18th February)

It was neither descending or ascending....just flying very very low!

Probably a RAF A400M Atlas.

It was loud enough to rattle my living room windows and prompt me to run outside like a nutter.

No way was it that beluga at 26k it was def military.

Just coincidence that those F22’s landed at Lakenheath about 20 mins later did they transit through Prestwick ?

Sound is a strange thing.
An aeroplane barely noticeable to most, can be painfully loud if you are stood at the focus point of reflecting walls. I remember a painfully loud four-engined turboprop trundling over at highish altitude when I was hanging out the washing once. I had tall walls on to my right and behind me, with a lower wall to my left. I posted a query on an aviation website with the time and direction, to be told that it was a US Navy C-130B transiting from Northern Ireland to France or Italy, I can't remember which. Old C-130s were loud, but not usually that bad.

Always had a keen interest in aviation so when something sounds different I'm usually outside trying to identify it. Agree about the C130's pretty easy to ID.

Not seen one for a bit now but AN-24's were a regular overfly and they were very noisy used to make the letterbox vibrate.
