As ever with our Shoot-Outs all that matters is what's quickest, and this week VBH has a Porsche 911 and Lotus Exige at her disposal. What do you think will win - the heavy and powerful Porsche, or the lighter but less powerful Lotus? All will be revealed - and then, if Tiff manages to master the technology in time, the results will be displayed in a brand new computerised table we've had commissioned."
I was quite surprised that the 997S, which is not exactly a lightweight car, was quicker on a circuit which in theory should favour a lightweight nimble car with a superior power to weight ratio.

PS I liked the comment by Tiff about the fith gear test track being a better test of a car handling than some airfield sights used by other programmes. I wonder if Clarkson was watching?
Much prefer the auto programmes in Germany. Straight to the point, talk about the cars only, specs, performance and extended drives on roads not tracks. They don't have a pointless audience such as TG and don't crack jokes in attempt to be funny (which TG certaninly isn't when they try). Another thing is that when you actually look at the content of something like TG or 5G, only about 30% is concentrated on the cars themselves, which in a 30 min slot is about 10mins. In Germany the programmes last at least an hour and somtimes 2 hours since they go into thourough detail and real world comparisons. They also cover motorbikes in the same programmes which gives much more interest to a wider audience.

A few sentiments on here echo my thoughts - they have turned it into a Top Gear-style format.
One thing though - Vicki was driving PCGB's C2S press car (RX54 WJK I think). Acording to Autocar and Evo who have also featured the car in recent articles, the car is fitted with sports suspension and PCCB but no PASM. Why was lovely Vicki blathering on about PASM while hooning it round the track?
Loved the AMV8 but why not pitch the C2S up against it?

were we watching different programs? i thought it got better as it went on. yeah it's adopting a tg style, but so what? i quite like the tg style; immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. good on them. it's going to be a good series if the first show was anything to go by.

Would have been good to get the AMV8 v 911, but 997S v Lotus Exige was interesting.
The jump jet was a little off track but very intersting especially the suits which restrict blood etc.
Auction would have been better if they'd spent more time on the cars and less on the F1 seat they bought.
First show was definately more upmarket than TG and an improvement on the last series.
Lets hope every show is as good.

Completely agree. The German approach to cars, especially the technical angle which rarely dumbs down to the audience, is far more interesting and demarcates brands in the language I buy with. Cars are not macho entertainment like in the UK. Mind you there was one dreadful car programme in Germany that was real max-power stuff – can’t remember the name though
