Another exciting adventure for me
Discussion
I'm off to Turkey tomorrow for dental work.
I expect there's a thread in here but thought I'd start my own with updates if there's any interest.
I had veneers about five years ago but they've needed resetting etc so I decided to go full on.
The clinic in Istanbul are primed to fit 24 zirconium crowns after some preparatory work but let's see.
Flight from Gatwick tomorrow and I'll be under the knife from Monday. Scheduled return is Sunday 1st March.
Nervous but excited.
I put this in the lounge as I'll be doing some sightseeing, tours etc and might get a wider audience for advice.

Be interested to hear your thoughts when done.
I was in Istanbul in November :
- Visit the Blue Mosque during the day and in the evening for the colour.
- Take a 1 boat trip on the Bosphorus, no need to book, just turn up, plenty of boats going all throughout the day, they wait until full before leaving..
- Grand Bazaar - It's enormous ! Has to be seen to believe how large it actually is.
Cheers
Nick

I've transited through but never visited so I'll do the above.
I have a few things I'd like to buy there and I'm sure it'll be great for that.
Some treatment days are only an hour or so meaning time for tours and I love walking.
Nice, good luck.
If you don't go to some cheap back street outfit then the care will most likely be better than the UK.
Some of the s
te that dentists get away with here is mad... But it's all forgiven because they're in the UK and charge thousands for a few fillings.
My mum and Step Dad live in Turkey for half the year, they won't get any dental work done here, all over there. Much cheaper and just as good quality, if not better.

That's good to hear.
To date the level of communication has been outstanding.
Messaged me today to confirm ETA of arrival and they gave precise details of where there driver will meet me.
It gives a lot of confidence.
I didn't realise how big Istanbul is. A population of 14 million it seems.

The new Istanbul airport is huge and very impressive although the prices are eye wateringly expensive!! It always amuses me how many people I see in that airport with bandages on their heads, plasters across their noses and bloodied scalps. Fair play to Türkiye though as they’re making a great deal of money from the cosmetic/health industry.
Good luck with the treatment and already mentioned get yourself over to the Asian side of the city.

My dental work in Turkey is well documented on here and going strong near 5yrs on. Mine was more maintenance than cosmetic so I've not gone the full Rylan BL1 shade! I've still got some NHS molar crowns as the dental practice didn't try to upsell or disturb what they thought was OK dental work.
You'll probably attract some criticism from UK dentists - or one in particular that will berate the overseas dental industry and attempt to justify UK procedures and prices. But when, in my case the UK dentist came out with an overall price and then 'magically' offered a £4k reduction if I paid up front, and without breaking down costs, I knew I was in the wrong place.
There's a facebook group 'Dental Clinics Turkey - Experiences and Reviews Turkey' but take some posts with a pinch of salt. Some good and bad recurring dental practices are covered but a lot of posts are those with issues - pain weeks/months after treatment (I never had any) and you'll get an idea of what 'good' looks like.
Best of luck and hopefully you've done your due diligence on the dental practice. If your teeth are strong make sure all the crowns are individual and not joined (in blocks) unless it is fully explained why some may need to be.

Some very good advice thanks.
The airport is incredible. 5 runways while we debate a third at heathrow for 40 years.
Other countries are passing us by.
I'm not going for an artificial look so looking to avoid that and the advice on separate crowns is well received.
The clinic has been very efficient. Collection at the airport was spot on and my first date this morning.
I opted out of there cosen hotel as I wanted one with a pool and it's very nice. Price was a bargain. It's in a lively area so I walked out last night and had dinner.
The three hour time difference gets to me but I'm up and ready for action.
I'll see when I can sightsee as that appeals.
Thanks all.

If I had the money...and a passport...I'd be straight over there for similar treatment. My bottom teeth at the front are awful and my top ones ground away so tiny. I'm very self conscious, particularly since I've had to shave the beard I've sported for 7 years off after a shaving mistake!!
