A factory source has just stated that TVR has lost well in excess of £20000.00, at an industrial tribunal, the aftermath of layoff about 6/7 months ago, which some deemed ill fated at the time.

The full article/story is to be published in the papers.

Surely, headlines like this are not necessary and can only do damage to TVR's reputation so making enthusiasts wonder ' what the hell is going on with a once prestigious car maker'

20k at a tribunal isn't that much. All it takes to find a company at a tribunal is one wrong move in the redundancy procedure.

You can see the situation "...we need to stream line. We need to layoff XX number of people...."

"...Oh bugger we need to rehire someone to X's old job. Can't manage without..."

X says unfair.... tribunal happens

Not really, If your going to buy a supercar, looking to see if any of the employess of the company have ever took the manufacturer to a tribunal, would be pretty low on your list of requirements.

IMO of course

Well they layed off about 90. Some are bound to have challenged it. No big deal.

I agree. Tribunals can happen for any number of reasons. As is was mentioned before, when laying off staff it is for the reason that they are no longer needed, and thus it is in the best interest of the company not to have them as their job does not exist. For example, if someone was making expensive handmade headlamp units, and the company changes to use an outside supplier, that person may be laid off. If the company then decides to make the headlamps 'in house' again, the employee would have a reasonable case that they had lost their job.

In those type of cases, the situation is unfortunate for both parties but doesnt imply much wrongdoing.

this is whay happens when the money men move in on a company run by enthusiasts , i thought TVR was making a modist profit , so why do they need to sack people just to double the profit when all it does is turn the workforce against you, it wont affect sales because some of the cars are bought by just those sort of people, but then what do i know .

The tribunal thing means nothing comapnies can lose them for not quite following a procedure correctly, even if they've (for example sacked someone for theft) in tvr's case i'm sure al to do with the redundancies though.

tvr was run by ONE man, not enthusiasts. he bought it and he sold it (30 years apart) in interviews they took on too many people/ cerbera was a big cost/regret.

I think the reality is that TVR DID NOT make a modest profit recently, was doing ok in the griff/chim glory years.
But prior to sale was in a bit of a dodgy state...

Most business's that do fail IS BECAUSE the so called 'money men' aren't there.

ie making sure that the business actually functions, has a cash flow, can pay suppliers,tec,etc,etc...

Very boring stuff, but business's fail without it.

Let's stick to the facts here.

1) Recent years have been hard for TVR.

2) There's no suggestion that they sacked people to "double profit".

Is TVR in trouble at the minute? Sales seem very slow.

Are we technically in recession?

Two months of negative growth?

Really?

if we are talking manufacturing/services much longer than that. buying things/ie reatil consumer spending does not make for a 'real economy'

Best year they ever had was £200K declared profit and that was the Chim/Griff/Cerb line up days.

au contraire and not wishing to be a smart f*rt but we are far from recession which is a 'contraction in the level of economic activity in which real GDP declines in two successive quarters'....

In fact the service economy has rarely had it better. Of the 3000 millionaires made this christmas in City bonuses, how many will be queuing up at the TVR Hogarth showroom??
